Funny you mention gothic platformer, I found this in internet adventures today: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/odallus-the-dark-call/x/1086011

Leroux: Something like Corril Slayer?

Fredd38: This looks pretty neat! Anyone tried it?
I've got it myself, but I haven't really played much of it, maybe one level at best; so I can't say much about it except that it's probably short (only 5 levels I think). The gameplay isn't exceptional, the opponents can get a bit repetitive, but in general I liked what I've seen. Anyway, if you think you might like it, it's only $2 (or less?).

dae6: It hasn't been released yet, but I'm somewhat hopeful regarding Volgarr the Viking .

Not exactly gothic, but looks like it could be some good platforming fun.

It might be worth keeping an eye on for the future.
Looks like a good challenge!

I haven't tried the demo, just saw it and thought it matched the bill. Will keep an eye on it now tho
You want a challenging, gothic-style, retro-looking platformer? Well, there's always Rogue Legacy...although be warned it's tough one :D

Shameless plug ahoy!

There's a demo of the game here:

Demon's Crest on the SNES should do the trick.

Demon's Crest - Intro Level
So many good looking platformers here!! I tried Odallus it's excellent!
It's not gothic and it's not retro but for my money the best pure shootem up platformer on here is Duke Manhattan Project. This adds absolutely NOTHING to this thread but I get frustrated at how overlooked it gets.

Lifthrasil: How about Elvira? If you can find a working copy, it might be exactly what you are looking for. Doesn't get much more gothic than that and it's a platformer too.

Or of course any good old 2D Castlevania game (using some emulator if you want to play it on the PC).
He is, of course, talking about Elvira the Arcade Game (which I don't believe was ever released in arcades), and not the Horrorsoft adventure games, which are not platformers.
Realms of Chaos maybe?

Yes. Of course. Thank you for the clarification.

And it even is available on GoG: http://www.gog.com/gamecard/duke_nukem_manhattan_project
...was supposed to be a time-filler while waiting for Duke Nukem forever, but turned out to be the better game actually. :-)

They Bleed Pixels would be perfect. Even the title makes you think "gothic yet retro".

Too bad the main character's name is Haggis.

Reminds me of the Arcade game Rastan:

I was very young when I played this a few times and never got very far on the first level, but I remember it was awesome.

Anything that is more RPG-ish and less pixelated? (I don't mind low graphics, I don't like it when I see pixels up close)

:)
