Well, I hope that's the proper word - what I mean are physical puzzles like, for instance, Rubic's Cube. Thing is, my friend loves these and I would like to get him a good one for christmas - thing is, I hate them and so have no clue what to look for :-P He has most of the common ones, so I'm looking for something new or not quite as known. Any tips?
No tips, but that would make sense to say.
too bad you didnt mention video games
i woudl have recommended the 7th guest and the 11th hour the puzzles in those will fry your brain
Check out this YouTube channel:

This guy is obsessed with puzzles and has tons of videos demonstrating different ones.
Off the top of my head, Square One comes to mind.

Personally, I was always partial to Tangrams, but I'm not sure that's quite what you're looking for.
Three businessmen go to a cheap motel looking to spend the night, but there is only one available room. Agreeing to share the room, the desk clerk charges them $30.00 for the night. The three of them split the cost, ten dollars apiece.

Later the manager of the motel tells the clerk that he overcharged the men, since the cost should have been only $25.00. So the clerk gives the bellboy $5.00 and tells him to give it to the men. The bellboy decides to cheat the men and keeps $2.00 for himself, and gives each of the men only one dollar back.

So each man has paid $9.00 to stay for the night, and 3 x $9.00 = $27.00.

The bellboy has pocketed $2.00. But $27.00 + $2.00 = $29.00.

Where is the missing $1.00?
Don't worry guys, I've seen Castle, i know the Manager took 1$ because he needed to pay the gardener to be quiet about his afair with his sister in law, but the truth is that the gardener is actually the murder of the bellboy grandmother and that's why he took the 2$, to help him pay a hired hitman to avenge his grandmother's death. But he's unlucky, one of the three man belongs to the nypd so he will have to pay the other 2 guys to distract the cop. That's why he needed to know where the other 1$ went... So he made a post with that question on gog forums...

That and 25/3=8.3333...

Man, I love these brain teasers. Like:

"A man uses the shaft every day to go out. In raining days he uses the shaft again when he comes home. In sunny days he uses the stairs. Why?"

Sometimes I start rounds of these with friends somewhere we gather, although not the ones involving math. These I keep to written form, by forum or email.

But order of regulations doesn't work like that... you can't retroactively recalculate with the new info :)
In order make them pay 9 each, he had to tell them the room costs 27, 2 more then the actual cost, and he netted the extra 2.
So it was like this - they payed 30 before (3*10) they got 3 back so 27=(3*9), and the bellboy took the remaining 2.
It doesn't need to be added back to 30 as the calculation changed and now doesn't add up back to 30 (-1=+2-3)=29 :)

He is too short to get to the button of the floor his apartment is on. On rainy days he has an umbrella that helps him reach the button :)

Well, if you guys have a DS/3DS consider buying the Professor Layton games.
Variety of brain teaser puzzles can be found

http://www.creativecrafthouse.com/index.php
http://www.eureka-puzzle.eu/eureka/index.php
http://www.mrpuzzle.com.au/index.htm

All of these seems to have difficulty ratings to puzzles so you can probably find painstakingly good ones. :)
You could check those wooden burr puzzles or logic/pattern puzzles at creative crafthouse.

Make eye contact and nod a lot. Optional, smile if it's not a sad story. Don't look at a clock or watch after it seems like the sounds should have stopped a long time ago. Don't forget to listen for voice inclinations where you might have to throw out a "Wow" or "What do you think?"

This is "how to interact with women", he asked about knowing how they think.

Anyway, I think George Carlin nailed the men/women psyche.

“Here's all you have to know about men and women: women are crazy, men are stupid. And the main reason women are crazy is that men are stupid.”
