Yeah, I'm pretty sure Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Beyonce, Shakira and all that starlets earn so little lately they can't even afford a new villa.
Music industry as a whole earns less though. Mostly because of new means of distributing music (you don't have to buy the whole album), and how shitty today's music is.
You blame piracy for people not wanting to buy whole albums when only 1 song is average and the rest on the cd is utter crap?
by the way, this is something funny: http://www.nielsen.com/content/dam/corporate/us/en/newswire/uploads/2011/05/music-sales-vinyl.png :D

Erm all 4 of those singers have been around for years. Apart from Gaga they all started before the general public got a hold of fast speed internet. Music industry as a whole earns less though. Most of the sites I use for music you can buy one song off an album
What methods would you like to see? I can't think of any better methods of getting music these days

Is there some proof that the music industry is stale due piracy or is that your guess?

Yes. And most of the people are buying single songs which are way cheaper than entire album, so this is why the total revenue is smaller.
This, and the shitty music.
Also, a great sources of free LEGAL music like jamendo, spotify, and many others.

Do you know of anyone who buys music these days?
I don't know a single person (apart from myself) who buys music legally and some of them are huge music fans. I have a strong guess that the staleness of the industry is linked to how much money it makes.

Where? Everything is either on iTunes, Spotify or Amazon and all of them don't allow me to legally purchase anything from my country. EDIT: I've bought one or two songs on Ubuntu Music store but a size of their discography is weak.

I discovered so much good stuff with the help of torrents it's just a crime and a shame people try and censor this file sharing communities. In fact i believe i even discovered GoG tru a torrent tracker. Might have been the great TPB but i don't quite remember.

MichaelFurlong: Because I have all the other things I need to live, laptop, clothes, personal items and gifts for friends. Also, at that point, why carry around just the discs, I may as well torrent them. The main thing about having all these games is having my personal, pretty, library. Dvd and jewel cases are a big part of that.
I also have other hobbies I have to make space for that I can't resort to digital form. If there was no PP, then I would have to do that. At some point, one just has to let it go.
Alien_Space_Bat: Other "hobbies", I get yer. Just deflate the blow up sex dolls mate that'll give you more room. I also have other hobbies I have to make space for that I can't resort to digital form. If there was no PP, then I would have to do that. At some point, one just has to let it go.
I buy music legally, that's why I have this problem of having to get rid of my albums. And I would not have bought half of them if it wasn't for being able to torrent and see what I like first. Alot of my friends are music fans and they use services like Spotify. The problem with music is that people either stick with what they know and don't buy much. Or they like variety so use services rather than individual purchases. Either way, music continues to be made.

Stop listening to the top 40 radio stations. There must be more musicians making more music in more styles than there ever were (...I'm guessing). There's a music scene in almost every medium to large sized town. Google 'SXSW torrent' for a music sampler of over 9,000 songs from countless small bands over the past 9 years at Austin.
And then buy the music to support the musicians.

Maybe if they bothered to create music worth buying it would make a lot of difference.
As for TPB im surprised people talk about it so...freely? hahah
I have a good number of CD's and do buy stuff legally as well. But digital copies really outnumber what i have bought. Cant justify buying new music - terrible to my ears in most cases
