AudioCG: WAT?
Oh, wait. Not Dead Island. Dead Horse. Oh well, an easy mistake.
Bulletstorm today had me activate before installing and then check the release date online after installing. Then it loaded up and said I needed to update, which took forever, then it told me to restart the game but there was no option on screen other than sign-in, which I could not do during the update, so I had to alt-f4 it. Then I sign in and it has to download my profile because I hadn't played a GFWL game online since my last reformat. After about 20 minutes I got to finally play my game.

IT WAS SO FUN!

robobrien: What does procedural damage mean? (I should google really to hide my ignorance)

Popinjay: I just googled it too. Hadn't heard of Dead Island. But its going to be like Crysis having sex with Deadrising 2. Can't wait.
Yeah it's been ages since i have seen a trailer that has blown me away like Dead Island's...and not a scrap of gameplay in sight either. I hope it turns out to be the awesome zombie apocalypse with heart i have told myself it will be.

And procedural damage sounds fecking amazing...high definition rotting zombies? I will be in my own private gaming nirvana.

Ah, how lovely.

There are some very early videos on Dead Island (which I can't find right now) which showed the skin, muscle and bone layers that the zombies are comprised of. Recent information released alongside the impressive trailer would suggest this is still very much in the game.

Sounds marvelous! I think I'm gonna go buy that game right now! I wonder how much longer it will take on my dial-up connection!

Can't wait to find out!

I bet on dial-up it would take DAYS! As a bonus GFWL updates are only available from within the game at first, meaning you would have to leave the game running that long to update! Can you imagine how fun that would be? Like a bullet of joy shot right into your skull!
If it is anything like older GFWL titles, it won't even display information or a proper progress bar when updating, leaving you to wonder if the game is frozen or what. Had this issue with a game just recently until I later found out it was just simply a large patch.
Yeah, DRM is da shit. I mean, it's because of the DRM that we have pirates, cracks and abandonware games. And you know, abandonware games brought us GOG.com in the first place....

So long live to the DRM. And piracy, of course, which is DRM's best ally (or it's the opposite?).

I can see the connection between Abandonware and GOG, but piracy and abandonware is rather far fetched and DRMs, while they suck more than a french sailors, do not lead to piracy. As also games without DRMs are pirated. Just type GOG on your trusted torrent source ...

But:

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering

Now that is a stringent line of thought!
It reminds me Mass Effect 1 which did not work on my laptop due to the awful DRM which couldn't recognize the genuine DVD on eSATA DVD drives. So I had to crack the game to be able to play it.
Yo dawg so I herd u liek DRM so we put DRM on your DRM so u can enjoy it while enjoying it.
I remember I once bought the "limited edition" of the longest journey when I was like...17...

well...the game wouldnt work on my PC due to Starforce

I think that day for me was an important one because it taught me the importance of always checking PC games for DRM and be very careful

Needless to say, I now own the game on gog.com and I'm thankful for that :)
I haven't been able to get Mass Effect 1 to work. It just dies. I'm not sure is it because of DRM or not, but it just won't work. And I have 2 of them. Retail and digital one.

It took me 2 days of constant emailin' with support to get one unnamed game to work *krhm*Patrician4*Krhm* and that was because it didn't feel like to validate itself and because on that, wouldn't start. Fun times.

Now I'm fighting with one game that uses SecuRom. Gosh...

Honestly, WHY do they need to put those "protections" in their games, while it's obvious it only affects buying customers?

So, thank god for GOG...

Edit. Oh, and don't even get me started with disc check. that is a different world altogether...
