Credentials? Really? The people that "follow" said person give him/her cred. That's the wonderful thing about the internet. If you're good enough and get a bunch of people to resonate with you, that is all the credentials you need.

I'm not thrilled about the gal but that does not mean I'm going to ask for her credentials in order to validate her opinions on any given subject.

htown1980: I agree. Also TotalBiscuit, what are his credentials? Jesse Cox, what credentials does he have? Wowcrendor, what does he know? Husky, where are his credentials?

Arkose: None of those are being deliberately marketed based on implicit sex appeal; as HoneyBakedHam indicated a large part of the point of female internet personalities is that they are (allegedly) attractive women first and gamers (or whatever) second.

Case in point, I was unfamiliar with this Lisa Foiles, and it just so happens that the first image result is of her doing a generically sexy pose in a Lara Croft outfit.
Wait, because she is attractive (and allegedly being marketed as such), she needs to prove herself somehow? If you are hot, you can only be hot? That's the kind of prejudice which has impacted on my life greatly (haha, not really) and needs to stop now! Seriously though, what difference does it make if someone is attractive or not?

I have seen a fair bit of Lisa Foiles' work (not to belittle the significance of your single google search research) and very little of it plays on her looks.
Who?

*googles*

Oh. Yes, she's very attractive.
sometimes I enjoy watching these to see what the trends from the gaming media's perspective of what they think gamers opinions will agree on. I myself wouldn't mind a bit more cleavage from Lisa any day than Jimquisition :D

I wonder how long she can hold her breath?

I would dare push your idea further by saying women in the 'videogame sphere' are more objectified than anywhere else, and I think compared to the 'fashion world' the return on dedication is way higher ... and people involved are ok with that.

Credentials for gaming journalists/"internet personalities"? What is this thing you speak of?

Most of this stuff (reviews included) are written by people who seem to me to have no credibility whatsoever. People like her, Angry Joe, Angry Videogame Nerd and Zero Punctuation are mostly followed for entertainment purposes. Your mileage may vary.

I love the internet but you are dead on and actually only scratching the surface. This is a little OT but remember when you needed TALENT to be a pop star? Just like you once needed credentials (or literacy) to be journalist, it all seems a casualty of war at this point. I wouldn't trade it in for the other wonders of cyber space but yeah, it's annoying.
I had no idea who she was, I just watched the top 5 cowboy thing and it really wasn't that bad. Sure it wasn't anything to write home about but it was ok, and she's hot too...
I haven't met anyone who actually likes the poor girl. I don't have an issue with her, and there was a couple of times where I laughed at some stuff from her top 5 a couple years ago when she was first on Escapist.
The OP seems to attempt to satirize something. Not sure what that something is. Dumb people on the internet that demand credentials from people doing videos and top 10 lists? They don't need more bashing with satire. They should be pitied.

Due to them being so dumb and all.
What were you doing looking at her face in the first place ?

Its not my fault everytime I go to the escapist on tuesday I see her face on the home page :P

Why OP has been low rated ? I really don't understand people downrating something they don't agree with, and the worse thing is that most of the dowraters didn't express their opinion in this thread (there is approximatively 2 people in this thread who really don't agree with OP and even if they downvoted both I don't think I would see the low rated indicator)

I didn't updown vote anything in this thread. Can people who downrated explain their point of view to me ?
