I'm reviving a necro thread because there's a lack of discussion about headphones here. I know this is a gaming forum but I believe there are some people here who appreciate a good head gear.

The funny part is I really want to get Portapro for my commuting need only to find out that it's an open and on ear headphone >_<


I can't use in ear/ear canal headphones, I got coughing fit when I put them on! my only option is earbuds (probably a Yuin, but their built quality is questionable) or something big (and need a bag to carry them around).

I've heard good things about the Grado's as well. I think they are as expensive as the Sennheiser's if not more.

Have you by chance tried ones that fit like the Bose IE2's? They're somewhat in-ear, but not too invasive and feel lighter than earbuds. Their sound is fantastic, if they are something you can wear. That sucks to be limited to earbuds. :( I haven't owned a good pair of closed-ear phones in years and years. I don't travel as much, so between the SR60i's and the IE2's on the road, I'm covered (do note though that the IE2's also leak sound. Not a problem for me, as I don't like to be isolated from sounds around me and prefer my music quieter when I'm out and about... but would certainly be a drawback for many.)
Depends on the model, really. The ones I own were only about $80, and they're an upgrade of a model from 1992 that was originally priced at $75. Not too bad a mark-up after over 20 years. :)

I prefer to remove all distractions myself. So, closed over the ear or in-ear are my preferred headphones.

Here's my next major purchase and I was a little low on the ballpark figure, $479.

That's an interesting product. The ear hook is a unique design that will need to be get used to. What do you think about it? is it bass or vocal heavy or is it pretty balanced?

I think my problem stem from my youth years when I used to clean my ears vigorously with cotton buds and sometimes I got blood on the cotton buds (don't do that, it's bad for you!). Now I sometimes got migraines and a bad case of Vertigo once. Now my inner parts of my ears are pretty sensitive.

But.... what about battery longevity? how long can you use after one full charge?

I haven't heard them, but if they are anything like my old pair of HD500s, they are pretty balanced. I should clarify, I am no audiophile, but they don't seem bass heavy to me. Previous to this pair I had a Sony pair, that seemed to be more bass heavy to me.

According to their page 10hours wireless (8hr with NC) with 3h recharge, but you can still connect with the standard 3.5mm cable (included), just no noise canceling without battery (I could be wrong about the NC without battery).

I adore the comfort of them, and the sound is pretty balanced and respectable. I couldn't compare the sound to that of Grados or other hi-fi headphones, but they're a big step up from any earbuds I've tried, and I'm content to sacrifice a bit of sound quality for the sheer comfort and ease of wearing them. You forget they're even there. The sound isn't by any means something to complain about, and carries bass well without overpowering the mids and highs. The mids and highs come through pretty clearly without sounding hollow or like they're coming from a tin bucket. If I'm at home, I will definitely choose the SR60i's over the IE2's, but when I'm out of the house, they're ideal for me.
I'm not usually a fan of Bose products, but I don't mind recommending these, as I've been quite happy with them.

That's.... actually pretty nice. I think I'm stuck in the old myth that wireless headphone wasn't reliable. Oh well, time and technology marched on.
Sound okay to me. As long I can minimize the sound leak I think I will try to look at it. Even though the price tag will be the one who sway me in or out from this.

I've had two different pairs of wireless headphones from Sennheiser...starting with the RS85 purchase in 2002 to my current wireless the RS140. All of them have great sound if you are in the same room as the bay station, but I can travel to almost every part of my house without losing complete audio. They get a little static as you move out of the room, but are usually clear once you stop walking.
Not sure how BT wireless will be, but with Sennheiser's name on it I'll purchase a set.
