Crosmando: I just keep the shortcuts to all my games in a single folder.
i do that, too. but 1) this only works if you actually download and install all your games, and 2) a separate list may still be helpful as you can mark games as "completed", "beat" or "currently played".

but like i said, my backlog is so enormous that i can no longer be bothered to keep track. i'd rather invest that time in actually playing some of my games instead of managing a list of games i still have to play.

Well, I can agree with that, I used to do the whole "Completed" and "Unread" sub-folder deal back when I was reading pdf e-books, but in the end the very act of categorizing my backlog so methodically itself became a mental excuse not to read them, because I have them all safely stored on my HDD.

lettmon: no. games are meant to be played not backlogged.

nijuu: games are meant to be collected (i think many others in same boat lol) :P
Indeed...

See, I own a number of games I never intend to play. But my current order of "games I will finish" is

Just Cause
Deus Ex: HR
Avadon Black Fortress (Android)
Wasteland (also Android via DOSBox)
Legend of Grimrock
Fallout: New Vegas
Saints Row III

By the time all of that is done, the Kickstarter games I've backed should start showing up on my computer.

I'm hoping I can be strong and not buy anything else until I'm at least halfway through this.

here is my partially completed library.
I didn't know about Backloggery. Looks like a great way to spend some time that could be put towards gaming. :)

And Darkadia looks really nice. I have a spreadsheet that's not up to date of my games and where they are. If Darkadia ever gets to add Steam library sync (and others if possible), I might use it. I already have some games in more than one place, and it's a good idea to have a complete list of games I know so that if I buy a game again it will be knowingly. :)

I'm sorry, but it is your duty to buy new GOG releases and play them. Get to work! No, wait! No games for you until I see Ultima IX and Wing Commander Prophecy released on GOG! Now you can get to work and I promise you can have fun after you get these out. ;-)

I have more unplayed games in my list that I'll be able to finish in my lifetime.
On the upside, I've finished more games this year than the year before.
Let consider for a moment how you would feel if you finished all the games in your backlog and couldn't find any others that interested you. Would you feel better or worse?

I say the backlog is a wonderful thing, full of hope and not meant to be finished.

I guess if you do finish you could always just start from the top again...
I'd put my backlog on backloggery, but that would take the whole day....

your entries in Games finished in year 20xx are always one of the biggest and you still have a huge backlog?

the f---?

Well, those indie bundles definitely aren't helping, or those Steam sales, or GOG sales. I buy games at a far greater rate than I finish them. Hell, I still have many have pre-digital download era games on CDs/DVDs that I've yet to play.

Even now that I've been avoiding fixing my desktop for 1.5 years, my backlog of games playable on my crappy laptop alone is still growing!

Simply put, I have no willpower.

To give you a clue: http://steamcommunity.com/id/kalirion/games/?tab=all&sort=name
(some games lacking hours played I finished before Steam started tracking time though)

What can I say, I get easily addicted to mediocre games :)

At least I managed to quit it once Dungeons of Dredmor came along...
