I want to go and make lets plays of the great gog games has any advice?
I bought fraps but what do i need more?
Thanks
A mic and tons of disk space?
You need a decent mic and remember to record the game at the same resolution you're going to upload, usually 720p.
If you're doing DOSBox based games, you can simply press CTRL+ALT+F5 and record the video straight out. If you want to do voiceover, you can use a mic and software like Audacity..
Depends on how you want to do it, your OS and your hardware. If you want to commentate while play, and have XP/an older soundcard, then you might run into issues recording both the game & your voice at the same time (I had to set up a separate computer just for voice recording, luckily I have an ancient laptop that can handle that).
Audacity is a free sound editing program that also lets you record from your microphone:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Absolutely don't record your game audio & voice to the same file, you will want to change the volume of the two separately (FRAPS in Vista & later allows you to do this)

Oh yes, and plenty of disc space is needed.

If you do live commentating then that can result in problems. While dosbox will output high quality videos, if your computer slows down for any reason at any point during recording (has to read from CD, minor in game stutter and so on), then it won't record that, so the file where you record your voice & the game video won't sync up properly. I just learnt that the hard way (recorded a level from Crusader no remorse, but the footage is not usable because of this).

Post commentary is "supposed" to be easier, as you don't have to multi-task (something that I noticed while doing my Majesty LP was that I played considerably worse while commentating, and that I from time to time forgot to commentate). It sounds boring to me though ;)

Also, FRAPS seem to be the preferred way of recording 3D games (trying to record 3D games with other recording programs have resulted in horrible flickering videos for me), but there are games that fraps don't play nice with. You can apparently get HyperCam 2 for free, so that is a possible option if you run into one of those.

Also, when recording dosbox, make sure to turn off the on screen FPS display, sometimes it will end up in the finished video if you don't.

Thanks for the reply yeah true and sometimes you need to edit something out if you have a bad day and keepon dying, ok it happens but noone like to see 3 movies where you died constanly on the same spot. And I noticed with fraps, I did a testrun with torchlight and i noticed fps was lowering drasticly that even my movie had lag so still need to find that out and thanks for reckomanned me a program btw how do you edit your movie, moviemaker?

I've experimented with a few free alternatives, but movie maker works fine, as long as you just want to do simple stuff.

All screen capture programs are pretty system demanding (FRAPS less so than most). You'll probably need to lower some graphics settings in game, and possibly chose to record at a lower FPS (30 should be just fine)
Well im gonne watch the movies i made and then comment on it so i get a movie where i give comment the right time btw anyone know what the time limit on youtube is? Long time ago it was 8 minutes but you can go longer now.

There does not seem to be one, as long as your files are not too large (2gb? Might be an old number), and your account is in good standing. I've upploaded one video that was over 1h.

Generally speaking though, most people don't seem to want to sit through very lengthy LP videos, so try to keep them somewhere in the 15min region.

Uhm that is not easy since you can go up to 1080p wich are huge but then again older games dont have to be that quality. Thanks for you help maybe i start with an easy short game and then go on to the harder games.
