Fenixp: I'd suggest Original War, but I doubt anyone owns it.
Original War? Count me in!

The best start would be Duke Nukem 3D since DN Forever will be out soon...
Sounds like fun, count me in. I'd like to add a vote for Fallout, but otherwise I'm ok with any other option.

EDIT: oh, and about the mechanics, I think the "game of the month" or whatever name may we call it, would be a better option as it would allow for more people to participate.

it's a great idea, I know I'm in.

Also, if we are going to do this it needs to be started soon, before we end up just talking about it and it manages to slip away into the mist never to be seen again.

As long as it's there people will join in after all.

The only tricky thing is working out what games we should play when. Near the end of the month we could have people suggest games and put them into a random generator, or we could maker a separate thread devoted to what we should play next and host a vote each month.
Voting might be better than a random generator... but a random generator might get people to try new things! Maybe we'll start with a vote first and go from there.

I'll wait until tomorrow (that's my tomorrow - it's 10pm now so when I wake up) and then I'll compile a list of everyone's suggestions and we can have a vote on it. Depending on the length of the game chosen we'll set a goal of when to be finished by and then we can get into it.
Oh no no no no, random generator is totally amazing. I mean, vote-based system is nice and all but everyone is going to vote for games they know they'll like, seems like a slight no-no in what you're trying to do.

Let's just make a list of games suggested here, that's um...
- Beyond Good and Evil
- Fallout
- Another World
- Might and Magic series (if it would pick this you'd generate another random number to pick which game of the series)
- Betrayal at Krondor (oh yes, YES!)
- Original War

As for too long games, well.. You could always make long and short time goals, it's impossible to play too long games in one go anyway, mixing it up with something action-ish would work better.

i'm very much up for a list that looks something like this for the first round, Fallout is the only one i've replayed recently, and i'm still interested in any discussion about it.
Choosing only one representative per genre per round might make it more interesting, I see a lot of RPGs in that list.
Just a suggestion.

Well I would drop Fallout for now (everyone and their grandma played that) and Might and Magic (those games are far too long) - Leaving only Betrayal at Krondor. It has nothing to do with the fact that I couldn't force myself into finishing it and that it is quite amazing, I promise. Really. No bias. At all.
Well the idea was mostly to try and finish the games I have rather than get more but I'm fine with doing it randomly based on a what people want and that way it is a bit more of a level playing field of who has what and who might have to buy the game if they want to join.

I'll check back in the morning and see what the list is looking like and do the whole random thing and then we can work out some kind of timeline.

We could of course go crazy and just pick a random game out of the entire catalogue =p

EDIT: I haven't played Fallout! It was just recently gifted to me though.

I think I'll be sticking with BG&E, unless another game I haven't finished is picked. Obviously buying new games is counter-productive and we won't all still have the same games left to complete.

So I think that in order for this to proceed it would be best if simply made our own choices if we don't have a title (unfinished) that's on the list.
All right then:

- Beyond Good and Evil (Action/adventure)
- Fallout (RPG)
- Another World (Platformer)
- Original War (RTS/RPG)

But we HAVE to include Krondor when we do Fallout! Anyway, I find the lack of shooters disturbing. Duke Nukem 3D? Or something slightly more obscure like Blood? And yeah, buying new games because of this does sort of go against the point, unless you just needed a reason to :D

Randomly choosing from the entire catalogue would be just madness and counterproductive. I’m assuming of course people will generally suggest the games in their possession they haven’t finished yet.

I would go for either random generation from people’s suggestions or limiting it in such a way that we wouldn’t have a game of form the same genre the following month if we are doing a vote.

well as far as shooters go, Blood 1 & 2, Painkiller, Kingpin or Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon are still waiting for my attention, so i wouldn't mind one of them on the list
- Beyond Good and Evil (Action/adventure)
- Fallout (RPG)
- Another World (Platformer)
- Original War (RTS/RPG)
- Blood 1 (FPS)

yeah, I think that sounds quite good. Whatever gets picked, we can throw a different game from a differrent genre next time. All of these can easily be finished in a week, 14 days would be fine. Oh, Trangmar could post a topic in chosen games forum after he picks it to attract more people.
