orcishgamer: Well, I applaud them for being willing to be corrected, but apparently they propagate as much wrong information as the myths they're debunking... so yeah, fuck them. Yes, I mean that, if they can't do a better job than that they really can get bent.

wpegg: The primary purpose of the show is entertainment. It is very good at that. It's not to be taken too seriously, and if you're watching it so you can compile an encyplopedia you'd be an idiot.

My post was just to point out it's also fallible, however if you have an infallible source of myths, please do share.
Infallible? No. But if they're purporting to debunk myths one would expect less obvious mistakes, even ones that you might be clued in about by looking at fucking Wikipedia.

I don't buy this "primary purpose is entertainment" malarkey, while technically true it's missing the forest for the trees. They are misleading people in order to make money and not even doing the basic level of fact checking that they are suggesting they are actually doing.

So yeah, shame on them, and they really can get bent. They are doing more harm than good and with a modicum of effort and fucking education they could avoid most of it.

No one asked them to be perfect, I'm suggesting they're careless assholes, which is a far cry from your intimation suggesting that I'm demanding that they never make a mistake.

They're lying to people to make money, and not even the king of lying where both people are basically in on it (e.g. I know a stripper does not actually think I'm "sexy") and participation is by mutual consent. The kind of lying they are doing is normally frowned upon.

Look at Mythbusters, same concept, better execution. And smoking hot redhead.

keeveek: Yeah, I don't understand that either. Black clothes absorb the light and heat while white clothes repel most of the sunlight.

You don't even need to wear them - just put two t-shirts in the sun for an hour, and then touch both of them.

Iain: Similar concept to an experiment I remember doing when I was still at school and a lot younger with Tin Foil (Aluminium / baking foil)

Cover the back of your hand with the shiny side of the foil facing up then put your hand under a heat lamp, you won't actually get burnt no matter how long you keep your hand there.

Then paint the same side of the foil with some black paint and do the same again. This time the heat passes straight through and you will feel it instantly.

PS : Anyone that gets burnt from actually trying this out is their own fault!!

Be warned that when you paint the foil black the heat passes through without any reflection and gets hot instantly
You could paint it any color and the heat would pass right through. The difference is not in changing it's color, but in changing it from being reflective.

Ok, forums are back, here's what I tried to post:

Orcish, I'm not trying to intimate any such suggestion, I don't know where that's come from. However you seem to be on the warpath tonight, so I'll let it be. However I don't think that such aggression to my post was warranted.

I actually also pointed out earlier that their researchers should be embarrassed by the mistakes, however I think you're going too far with the suggestion that they're "lying to people to make money". They're just not very good, there's a difference. I am sure if they could get accurate info they'd be sure to use it.

sanscript: I can't believe that many actually fell for this sort of thing. I'm in no way any chemist, but anyone that has gone through highschool/college should know how one names certain basic compounds:
Mono = 1
di = 2
tri = 3
etc...

H1 is thus monohydrogen or just hydrogen/hydrid, whether it's the first or last compound.
H2 = dihydrogen
O1 = monoxide (oxygen is gas = oxide)
O2 = dioxide (as in CO2 - Carbondioxide)
O3 = trioxide (ozon)

In other words, dihydrogen-monoxide (H2O) is just plain water.
I'm not sure why you felt the need to explain that, but whatever. The funniest (or saddest) thing about this hoax is that she "speaks for New Zealand National Party on drug issues" (according to Wikipedia). One could also reinterpret her statement in her maiden speech that water is the "single most important issue facing New Zealand today" accordingly :-D

Actually, now that I think about it, it's probably rather sad. Apparently, nothing has changed after the incident either.

They're lying or incompetent, I have very little respect for either, most incompetents also know they are incompetent so it's not impossible they're doing both.

It sounds like a cruddy show and I don't know why it deserves much besides scorn given the information at hand. I have no other goal other than to point out these people sound like morons and should be treated with scorn. Whatever other positive attributes they have, noble though they may seem, would be, in my opinion, secondary in nature to the above.

Oh, OK, and are grains animal, vegetable, mineral, fungus or one of the two kingdoms of unicellular life? Hmmm?
And yes that makes fruit vegetable as well! Yes it does!

But... what does that make light, and radio waves? EDIT: And the Higgs Boson!

Sorry, feeling a bit cheecky.

But hang, on, hang on, you're basing this on what someone on an internet forum remembers them saying, possibly years after he heard them say it, if you go listen to what was actually said first hand with all the accompanying admissions, technicalities and provisos and you STILL feel that way then I'll let you keep your opinions, in the meantime I'm confiscating them, see me at the end.

When looked at one way, yeah corn is a grain, but it's starchy as fuck and bears more in resemblance to tubers like a potato than most grains.

Avocados and tomatoes are technically fruits, but get treated as vegetables in most dishes. Strawberries aren't a berry, in fact I'm not really sure what they are. An "aggregate accessory fruit" according to Wikipedia, but I still don't know what the hell that means, just that it doesn't fall into the standard definition of berry or fruit.

Sorry, feeling a bit cheecky.
All parts of the EMS, including light and radio waves are electro-magnetic energy - a form of energy rather than matter (and yeah, photons are particles and matter is just crystallised energy anyway but lets pretend we have matter over here and energy over this other side for the sake of sanity)

Have you noticed any of that here?
Buckwheat is not a grain - it is a nut.

There is not a single man-made construction which is visible from space.
Someone debunk this:

Why is my island's chupacabra looks like this:
