Todd Hollenshead has left iD, seemingly with little fanfare or prior announcement, which I take as a major sign seeing as how he seemed like the biggest drum beater for the merger.

I am surprised that it has taken this long, but it seems like the chewing & digestion is finally beginning.
Id needed some guidance and whip-cracking. I don't mind Bethesda taking some control.
this is a bit more than taking control, they just fired the guy who organized the sale of iD to Bethshittia and then made a point to highlight how unimportant he is to the company.
Id seems to be getting short on classic employees. I guess it's just JC, Tim Willits, and Kevin Cloud now? That's kind of sad. Passing of an era. :/
O.O did carmac finally quit too?

I was predicting that he would be the first to go since his ideas on open software clash with Bethshittia's iron fist approach.

If he was the business guy and they run the business now he does seem to be pretty irrelevant.
Zenimax has been rumored to be unhappy with ID for a while now. Him leaving could be part of that.

Mastication
Can't say I care. Return to Castle Wolfenstein was the last decent iD game, and even it was only decent, not "great".

That was developed by Gray Matter Interactive, id Software oversaw the development.

If RtCW was decent then Doom 3 and RAGE were decent as well

Lol what. Doom 3 was a horrible sequel, and RAGE was nothing but a cover-shooter designed for gamepad aiming.
People really exaggerate how "bad" their last few games were. I guess it's the old high expectations issue.
Well it's probably because a lot of the people here that are thinking of ID remember them for the genre defining stuff they did. And while Rage and Doom 3 were good games, they are far from being the best the FPS genre has to offer - something that you could expect from ID back in the good old days. And they can't even say that FPS games are a forgotten niche like maybe adventure games or simulations are. In the US and in Europe it's probably still the best selling type of game overall.
Until the day consoles can support 1000 Cyberdemons on the screen at the same time all shooting, I don't think a true Doom can be made with multi-platform release.
With any luck, Bestheda would go ahead and make a genuine DOOM IV. I...don't like Doom 3, as it felt quite generic and wasn't faithful to its predecessors. (DOOM, DOOM II, and DOOM 64)
