tomimt: Gotta say, this remake was totally worth the wait. It looks good, sounds good and a lot of the jokes and puzzles are new. This really redeems Larry after THOSE games.
avatar
DProject: I agree, although I would've liked optional subtitles. Though I understand spoken English quite well, still not well enough to not miss some of the jokes/lines.
I'm pretty sure there are subtitles; the beta certainly had them. You might need to look in the options menu.

Crosmando: I have to say, remaking adventure games seems rather redundant to me, unless the player happens to be suffering dementia or acute memory loss. Because anyone who has played the original game would remember the solutions to all the puzzles, and be able to finish the game very quickly.

ET3D: I don't have dementia or acute memory loss, but I have pretty bad memory, and any game that's over 10 years old I probably remember a very small part of it. So I tend to quite enjoy remakes.
I remember a little bit from here and there from the original, like the beginning at Lefty's and the little shop. However, it's been over 15 years since I've played it, so I would classify this as a completely new experience since so far the fact I played the original has served me in a total of four things only: I remembered the location of two items you need to pick up, that you needed to give one certain item to another character, and how to get a rubber (and what immediately followed afterwards). To me it's more like "hey I remember this place!" rather than "Hey, I remember how to solve this puzzle".

Oh damn, NOW I notice there are. I did check the options before I started to play but I guess I didn't check them well enough. Crap...almost makes me want to restart. But nah, think I'm gonna continue anyway. The dialogue has been spoken clear enough so I don't think I've missed any true gems by not understanding what the characters said. The only place so far, where the voices were a little muffled, were in Caesar's Phallus (yes, I knocked on all the doors in all the floors)

Question: will backers be able to opt for a GOG key once it's released here, or is it a choice between Steam and Replay's own DRM-free download?

And hi to Josh and congratulations on releasing LSL:R :)
Thank you, Timelord!

Yes, it's a choice between Steam and Replay's own DRM-free downloads. I don't know when GOG will have us or what the DRM choice (if any) will be here.

DProject, I'm glad you found the subtitles! You know, we had a LOT of discussion in the past couple of weeks between defaulting to subtitles on or off. Many people (especially at N-Fusion) felt that we should default to having them on, as that's a much more traditional way to handle it and they felt the game looked...I dunno, too naked?...without them. Al and I both felt pretty strongly that the subtitles should default to "off" so that you got to *hear* the jokes instead of reading them.

GamersGate also has a DRM-free copy for sale! :-)

Even if Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded was your typical remake, don't forget that the target-market includes a group of gamers that haven't played the original.

And it's not necessary to suffer from anything you mention to not remember every single detail from a game you've played.
There's also a good chance that there're people that do remember the original in detail but want to play a remake either to "relive" the experience or to compare the two.

Perhaps, for me at least the solutions to puzzles tend to be main thing I remember, even if the story doesn't stick with me. I guess cause I considered them "important" enough to take mental note of.
So, I've been playing the game pretty much the whole afternoon and day. And I really like it. (Special mention to a certain easter egg that was a delight for the ears)

But also, now I remember why I don't play adventure games often. If I get stuck, I get frustrated pretty quickly and go look for hints online. But: uh-oh! Game was released merely hours ago. The possibilities of hints online at the moment: slim. So I give up: where are the friggin' batteries? If someone knows, please response via PM, preferrably with a hint instead of a straight answer (at first, at least). So that we don't spoil the puzzle for someone else who's playing the game or is interested in the game later.

We are very eager to release new Larry, as soon as we will get the build without hidden Steam files (that the game needs to run).
Once we have a build that's completely DRM-free, we'll be sure to upload it for all of you. :)

What are these hidden Steam files you speak of? I downloaded the DRM-free PC version from Replaygames.com and Steam played no part in installation or anything else??

Yeah, c'mon! Don't make us wait!

;-)
The steam part is just distraction. The periscope from the frontpage is Larry underwater observating women on the beach and they're now busy to program a nice animation how he is forced to come out of the water directly on the frontpage ;-)

On the topic of adventure games coming to GOG, any word on Pegasus Prime w/ scummvm coming soon?

Most of them don't stick for me, perhaps because I find them just obstacles in the way of the story/jokes. :) One I remembered in Monkey Island was the grog mug puzzle (moving the grog from mug to mug), which was helpful because the interface of the remake would have made it much harder to realise what I needed to do (and it did make it harder to do it, I switched to the old one).

I'll wait with redeeming my copy, maybe I'll be able to get it on GOG.
