Shamefully, I got RPG Maker 2000 from the Internets when I was in college. I had no idea that it was stolen software. I just thought some dude build the most awesome indy game making program ever. So I built a game with it and then learned that it was illegal.

To make things as right as possible, I bought RPG Maker XP as soon as it was available in the U.S. And I still enjoy messing around with it.

So, about the game:

I love RPGs and I always thought it was sad that real religion never made it into the games. There were always polytheists and so forth. So I made a game where some of the characters were Christians (and others most definitely not).

You should be able to enjoy this game no matter your religion (or lack thereof).

By "enjoy," I mean experience an old-school game from a first-time designer. :D

This game is about a volcano that shows up. You are to investigate it and then try to stop it from destroying the world.

After this game, I built the world into Neverwinter NIghts and ran a multi-chapter campaign with a group of 3-10 people (at any given time) once a week for a few years. We had a blast in the world that was started with this game.

I think that just about anyone who likes old-school RPGs will at least half-like this. So if you want to give it a try, please do! And I love feedback or just updates of where you're at in the game -- or even questions about how to get past a certain part.

Also, you will want to save a game right after the intro video/dialog. And then make a new save before leaving the islands (much later in the game). You may need to load it to finish the game.

I can beat this in about 3 hours. I've seen people do it in as little as 2 and as long as over ten.

Not sure why that line would stop you reading.

In context, the bold would mean that others are completely opposite to Christians, possibly even antagonistic.

in the readme there claims to be a way to get hints on the website but i cannot for the life of me find them, is there a walkthru or hints actually available? If not i understand

I stopped working on that website nearly 8 years ago. It's about the same as it was back then. I never got a walkthrough up. But if you have problems or questions, feel free to post and I'll do my best to remember.

A quick tip: One of the best things you can do is try to do the museum quests first. The curator is in the castle in a room west of the king. Screenies can be seen at:

Stopped me reading because I was so stuck on the meaning of it. I assumed you were a Christian Warrior.

Any-who, that isn't true at all.. research other religion.

It means that there are bandits, minotaurs and fiery beasts from the deep.

You should be mostly unoffended if you're an aetheist. There are the 10 commandments posted in the castle and your character tells a drunkard to follow Jesus at some point. There's a few random NPCs that will say something of a Christian nature (like "Thank God we're still alive").I think that's all the Christian elements I put into it. Nothing that you wouldn't run into in real life.

I originally wasn't going to put any Christian elements into the game, but I had been reading how a lot of Christians who felt creeped out by magic used in a good way was keeping them from playing RPGs. That was the main impetus for removing good magics and adding Christian elements. But I eventually decided that if they can live with CS Lewis and Tolkein being Christians and having magic in a story with a Christian message but they have problems with games like Might and Magic or Baldur's Gate, then they're just being irrational on that point. So I ended up putting in some magic and magical elements into the story.

For the Neverwinter Nights game, I adapted a different theology. Forgotten Realm gods were worshipped as the minority and most people considered "The God Who Had Yet Revealed Himself" to be the true god (whom some interpreted to be AO (or whatever his name is).

I don't see why it's the 'christians' who are acredited with the monopoly on right and moral actions, if you look at their books of teachings, it should actually be Buddhists, they don't have an 'old testament' where Buddha was a bastard.

When I hear the word 'christian', my mind immediately thinks of American TV evangalist.

The website was geared (and linked from) a Christian gaming website. The game has the same Christian message as many non-religious-market-targeted games or stories: be good to one another and help the defenseless. It's not proselytic in nature b/c its intended audience was Christian 12 year olds whose parents wanted them to play a game without gore and foul language.

I don't care either way if you play the game. It's really not a great game, but it has its moments. I wrote that I'd share it on a RPG Maker post a few days back, so here it is shared.

I like what PMIK said. I've met Christians who I could never be friends with. And I've met Christians who are awesome people. I always judge/evaluate people on their own merits, not by a label they have applied to themselves. I'd strongly recommend doing the same if someone wants to live a life devoid of prejudice.

Not all of us Christians are bible thumbing zealots, just like not all muslims are terrorists. Please don't judge all because of the actions of a few, and keep in mind that Christian is a very broad term and there are many, many sects:
