Leroux: Nice! But what's a choice between "DRM-free or a digital downloadable copy"? ;)
They're actually offering you DRM free Collectors Edition of an older game of theirs, Discord Times, AND (now also DRM-free) digitally downloadable copy of their new game Legends of Eisenwald so you get TWO games if you pledge.

Petrell: He also stated that their "Steam contracts are not exclusive" so that probably means game will be sold elsewhere when released.
Sadly thats not the answer I need. Civ5 could be bought elsewhere from steam. But every copy, regardless of where bought, has to be run through steamworks. No sale.

Maybe you can send them a PM to confirm? I'm curious to know if they classify Steam as DRM too. I think I've worn out my welcome, having bombarded them with PMs just now.

That'll have to wait till tomorrow. They're probably asleep by now and I have to go too. It's already midnight for both of us (we are in same timezone).
Perhaps I should. I figure their busy, and getting swamped by emails and postings about now. Though I think it useful that people have sent them. And think they should continue to. For me, Ideally we strike up a revealing discussion here. Then post a link to it. That way they read when time allows. And get a variety of opinions and counter-opinions in one read. And can participate in the discussion if they are so compelled.

I think the GOG community can be good for this sort of thing. We've gotten the interest and seen the participation of devs and others in the industry. GOG makes waves. Hopefully devs and others will surf them with us. ie: GOG has an active, and relatively reasonable community of gamers. Some are refugees of DRM and other usage restrictions. Some outright rage against it. Others don't care. Some are fans of steam. And more. We are a diverse goldmine of opinion and experience for which the gaming industry could make use of to create better product and foster more sales over steals.

It seems that they have confirmed it to be available DRM-free.
From the Kickstater comments section.

We just updated our FAQ, there will be a DRM-free version. Since we cannot change a description of a reward, we will have to ask you at the end which version you prefer - DRM-free or some other like Steam for example.
and from the (now updated) FAQ

Will the game be DRM-free?

Yes, we will have DRM-free version! The rewards cannot be edited anymore but each backer will have a choice for either DRM-free or a digital downloadable copy.
Sure like the looks of this. But think I need to skip this now. Have backed already 8 games there.
Looks pretty cool, I hope it succeeds.

And I like that the first tier also gives you the first game they made for free. It's called Discord Times and looks kinda interesting (another tb fantasy game). So no matter what happens with the project all backers actually get something.

It'll be real sweet when they starting being released. FTL is bound to be the first one. I can't wait to play that game.
Hurrah, this game has finally been fully funded.

It looks like some good old fashioned fun.
I'm glad this game has already reached it's goal. It looks really awesome and the realism of their world is refreshing.
Nice, glad it got funded.
Legends of Eisenwald is doing pretty well now after RPS and Grim Dawn advertised the project. They have already reached a couple of stretch goals, but obviously they would like to go further. They only have one day left in their campaign, but it looks like they could get to $80,000.
