This was brought to my attention via Lowyhong's kickstarter thread and since it looks pretty cool I thought I'd bring to the attention of the general forum

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1684781151/legends-of-eisenwald

Check it out, back it or don't back it. I think they have a lot of good stuff to show and aren't asking for a great deal of money (relatively speaking).
This looks really promising. I hope more people jump on this game.
Seems really good.
> While we would like to make it DRM-free, right now we cannot promise that since we don't know yet how the game will be distributed.

Uhm, what? In addition to any other option, distribute it through your site and guarantee that version to be DRM-free. Bam, problem solved.

I still remember the times when $2000 total funding would be considered a success and a $500 pledge would get you producer credit. (I am on the fence whether to accept credit as a sort of early adopter perk or find the conscience to refuse.)

I corresponded with them. They have this misconception that if they make it DRM-free, it will be pirated to hell. They sure have a lot of trust in the people who are supporting their project in good faith.

Video is very well done and shows actual gameplay unlike most kickstarters (actually wish more of them would be at that stage before kickstarter campaign). I was about to pledge before I noticed that they handn't decided on DRM.

I can think only two resons for it:

They consider going Steam exlusive and plan to utilise Steamworks OR they actually plan to negotiate with retail distributor.

Well a misconception is just a concept that's been missed. (Go ahead, you can use that proverb)

There is enough good evidence for DRM-Free and they probably just need some good education/examples to sway them towards the light.

They don't realise that if their game is any good, it'll be pirated hell and back no matter how much DRM they pile over it? Just point out to them that every steam and UbiDRM game is available in perfect working order in torrent sites. DRM only hurts peiple who would be willing to pay for legimate copy.
""It’s possible that beta test will be done through an online distribution service like Steam.""

Bummer. Be it then possible the game itself might require steam?

I hesitate to back, what originally I was excited to. I wont use steam. Dare I pre-order a game that may or may-not require steam? If they make a deal with steam for handling the beta, does it not stand to reason that valve require it be a steamwonks game? ... Is easy. I won't risk it even for something as appealing as this. The game is right up my alley. Looks great! Seeing steam mentioned saddens me :~(

I cannot fight the good fight alone. I need your voices too, my friends.

While DRM remains an important selling point for me, especially for small developers, this game has gotten my Darklands vein pulsing again. While there are differences, and they haven't said much about role-playing elements beside items, this game certainly gets my support (unless they manage to make a mistake towards the end).

I could leave a comment stating that GOG.com shows that DRM free or no one can make money and be successful to boot, and that DRM doesn't guarantee a game won't be pirated. :)

Correspond to them a link to this, and other discussions where people express opinion on this game and DRM. Ideally they get the point before the funding drive ends.
I have a project due for grad school in a few weeks. Legends of Eisenwald has inspired me to find someone to do it for me and then give me $2,000 for the privilege. You're welcome.
