As would 6,000+ other GOGers http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/blood_omen_legacy_of_kain_1

It's a classic. ^^
While I don't know the details, I have heard that there is some kind of rights SNAFU with the original - something like Eidos owns half the rights, Silicon Knights owns the other half, and they had a big fight years ago and aren't talking to each other.

Which is a shame. I too would love to see the game turn up here.
I think that the big fight was about how the sequel should be made, as Soul Reaver wasn't exactly what the original team wanted. But yes, it would certainly be great to have it around

There's also the issue that the PC version of Blood Omen was published by Activision.
I think Eidos, Activision and Silicon Knights should all just give up their rights to the game and give them to cubanraul who could help GOG run the game on modern systems
They should release the source code (unless it's already out there?) so Blood Omnicide can work faster for there project. Their engine seems to be much easier to make it work on modern systems too and it doesn't hurt that it has a IQ increase with regard to the original art design.

Yep, it's one of those classics I'd love to see on here as well. Sadly many game elements from the original never really made it into its sequels. I remember playing one of the sequels on Gamecube -- was it Blood Omen 2? -- and found it rather disappointing.
The game is available on the Playstation Store so I don't know what would be holding back the PC version... (someone said Activision published the PC port, still we have a ton of Activision titles here so that doesn't explain much).

A re-release of the PC version might mean trying to bring together various big-name companies to try to re-release the game, similar to how Hasbro (holder of the D&D license) and Ubisoft (holder of many SSI games) would have to come together (or be brought together by GOG) to re-release the SSI AD&D games.

Blood Omen 2 is the black sheep of the franchise - it was made by an entirely different team and mangled things so badly that some fans (myself included) consider it non-canon. The other sequels are worth playing, though - don't judge them by the behaviour of their drunken idiot cousin Blood Omen 2.
I like Blood Omen 2. Is anyone here actually surprised by that revelation?

It's a good game. Should that be surprising?

I find the "Mike Tyson's Punch Out" style combat fairly interesting. Having to kill everyone you encounter to boost your stats is a bit silly though. SLURRRPP!! XD
The console version has horrendous load times. I would go with the abandonware PC version if I wanted to play it today. Buy it on PSN and play it on PC if that suits your conscience.

There's a fan patch for modern systems too, FYI.

To be honest I'm not the biggest fan of any of its sequels -- they all seem to suffer from Laracroftitis. ( I said "titis". Hurr. ) Back then the Tomb Raider games were immensely popular and commercially successful and as a result all of the major studios, especially Eidos, tried to apply the Tomb Raider formula to any new action game they released. At some point I just grew really tired of the box-pushing and silly switch puzzles. It's especially awkward when your character is supposed to be some ancient superhuman bad-ass. And yet there you go, pushing around boxes.

As for Blood Omen 2, in particular ( I think that's the one I played ), gods, there was so much wrong with that one. Aside from the aforementioned annoying gameplay elements, it lacked so many things which made the original game fun. Most of special abilities were either gone or severely limited. I think there were almost no weapons, armour or usable items, either, so you were stuck using the same repetitive combat mechanics throughout the game. Didn't help that I was playing a localized German version, which also had terrible voice-acting.

Oh yeah, and the AI was just embarrassingly stupid. I remember there were situations where you could jump on a table, and any enemies in the area would no longer be able to attack you. A. Fucking. Table. :|

Now compare that to games like Resident Evil 4, where enemies would break down even locked and barricaded doors, or use ladders to enter through windows. Playing that village sequence in RE4 for the first time pretty much makes you wet your pants -- compared to that, the enemies in BO2 were just sad.

Other than that, I've only played Soul Reaver, back on the PS1. Never finished it, but it was pretty decent at the time. In fact, I considered grabbing a copy during the Insomnia sale, but I ( just barely ) missed it. I'll probably buy a few games of the series on here, at some point. First and foremost I'd still like to see the original Kain on here, though.
