klaymen: And this is even more sad:
From the article:
Shack: So full price?
Doug Lombardi: Yeah. At the end of the day, this is going to be a bigger game than Left 4 Dead.
It's five campaigns versus four, all five are playable in Versus mode, Survival mode out of the box, the new multiplayer game mode. Plus over 20 new weapons and items. It's a full sequel. I call BS. Mark my words, one or more of the following scenarios will happen:
1) Versus mode will be unbalanced in at least one campaign
2) One or more versus campaigns will be taken out
3) Novelty of the new range weapons will wear off in 2 days
4) Novelty of melee weapons will wear off in 5 days. Either that, or everyone decides dual pistols > frying pan
5) People figure out how to exploit Wandering Witch
6) 4v4 matchmaking won't work properly
7) People start whining about how match making is broken again, and start demanding for a normal functioning browser
8) New pathfinding isn't as dynamic, and people start exploiting it all over again CORNER STACKEEEENG LULZ!
9) People start getting bored all over again "LYK THIS IS THE SAME THING ZZZZZZ"
10) I can't think of a #10
I'm also going to restrain all excitement about the new game mode, until I know what it is. Not gonna deceive myself like the time when they announced Survival - instead of a true zombie survival sim, what we get is lousy arcade-style corner-stacking breakneck pace Serious Sam meets zombies.
Still, even if the new features of co-op suck, even if the new weapons are just gimmicks, if they do feature a zombie survival sim where you are in a large city, have to scrounge for ammo, forced to barricade doors and use physics to move from one rooftop to another in a non-linear way, having to really decide whether to barricade yourself or try to run to a less-infested area that has more supplies...that would be the bomb. I'd gladly pay full price for that.
But chances of Valve getting that ambitious? Chances of Valve wanting to break the mold, instead of making a better wheel? Almost zero.
Weclock: in that same article, they said they were going to move l4d content into l4d2
Chet Faliszek: There is a chance for that[. Like Doug said, we're trying to figure out the way that makes the most sense for that to happen.
In other words, that means "Maybe, but most probably won't happen cuz we'll be spending 60% of our efforts on L4D 3"
It's the same way how they decided to reduce spamming of the smack button. God bless the genius who thought it wise to give Versus players a fatigue on smacking, but not those who play on Expert. /facepalm
