Syrion: I've just played it for a while and enjoyed it a great lot. Apart from the weapons feeling all to similiar to Counter-Strike: Source, it is all very well done, especially the fantastic animations of the zombies. Even though this was a lot of fun, I don't think it could last very long for me. Things are mixed up nicely with varying amounts of zombies in every match and more, but the maps are still essentially totally linear. So, I guess Left 4 Dead would be the perfect game for the occasional LAN party with a bunch of friends. But considering that I could mostly play it online with strangers or with a friend using TeamSpeak now and then, I'm quite sure it really won't be worth the full price for me.

Weclock: User Generated content is your friend, friend. And this is the demo.
But, I did want to say there are already mods out for the demo.

I love the game so much. I think it's my favorite fps in the past 2 years of disappointing releases and it's just a demo. I get that feeling I got way back when I played the Unreal Tournament demo or Quake 3 (at least for me.)
i'm gonna need these pills!

Aw, too bad you're in US, BloodDoll we would have played with Entvex & lasershock :D
About Quake 3... the CPMA mod gives it a second life if you're bored of it... try it if you haven't ;>
Anyway, I'm gonna try the thridperson mode right now! :P
Weclock: The demo has been "dehacked", we can't play splitscreen nor zombies anymore on the demo :( image

Well I do play later hours that might match with yours. I LOVE this Left 4 Dead game. I don't know about the average person, but in all my years of playing demos for fps games, I never put in over 45 hours, and this demo is not very long. That subway map is extremely fun for me. Also finally a great female character to play that isn't some big breasted freak. Zoey owns. I'm so addicted to this game. It's like the WoW of FPS games for me (even though I don't personally like WoW anymore.)

Bicro: Honestly, from the stuff I've seen, I don't see what the big deal is all about.

It's simply a masterpiece.
Funniest game I've played since months, if not years.
Long way better than overrated crap like Far Cry 2.
My system keeps crashing while playing the demo through no fault of the game. But from what little I've played it's very polished and immersive. The gameplay is simple to pickup and play. You just keep moving forward and shooting zombies. I can see myself getting into it, but nowhere near the level of giddiness I got from playing Team Fortress 2.
Like someone said before, the zombies are way too easy to mow down. Tried it on expert and it's still pretty easy to take down zombies. Left4Dead is definitely more action oriented than horror. Fun arcadey game, but I'll pass for now.
I'm getting this pretty soon. Looks like my type of shooter. I'm big a big fan of darker stuff :)
Nice seeing that other people here liked painkiller too :)
I love this game! I pre-ordered and am eagerly awaiting for the full-version next week :]
The more real players that join the harder it seems to become on expert. I can play the subway level through with pistols on expert and 3 AI, but when people join suddenly I'm seeing more swarms while tanks attack and smokers grab people away and hunters take out anyone they can and then just as everyones being revived, they throw another horde at you and a boomer from behind that brings a second horde of zombies and then the last person alive trying to revive someone else gets grabbed by a smoker. One of the devs on the L4D forums said the ai was going to be even more different in full release.

God, this game is average on Normal and Hard, but on very ahard,...or expert whatever it is, makes it absolutely brilliant. Nothing like screaming at your teammates through your mic....
WIIITCH!

I found it too easy on expert :P
Glad to know they want to tweak the AI, BloodDoll!
Just saw a L4D commercial, I'd sink money into this game sooner if I didn't have to fix my car.
Anyway, I wanted to say that I feel like L4D owes some of it's characters depth to Team Fortress 2. It's a multiplayer game where each of the characters actually has an extreme amount of depth to them, just like Team Fortress 2 is.

I think Turtle Studios did all that before Valve bought them up to just publish this game. I have TF2 but don't like it because of the whole no female character to play.. well I can't say too much about my private life and career here but I'm against some games not having something for girls to play that also isn't sexist. Anyway with what I do for work, that's going to all change (on what I'm involved with.) But.. the entire clan i play with is all girls so only 3 of 12 play TF2 because of that very reason. With L4D we are all fighting over Zoey. I just play with other people at this point heh so I don't have to fight over the character.
I tried the Demo a few times, but i cant say it was as good as i hopped for. I tried both SP & MP and with a few different levels of difficulty. I was thinking about pre-ordering it since im a sucker for Zombies but i will wait until i read a few reviews. I think this game is a tons of fun when your playing it in LAN with a few friends. But from what ive seen now i will wait a while. Sadly. :/

BloodDoll: I have TF2 but don't like it because of the whole no female character to play..

Err, as far as I recall it has been hinted at by Valve employees that the Pyro is, in fact, a girl.
Kind of like the Samus Aran of PC gaming, I guess.
(There should be a quote somewhere, can't find it atm, though.)
EDIT: I guess it's actually quite interesting that Valve chose not to display (e.g. exploit) the Pyro's gender (as a selling point, Tomb Raider style). Anyway, thinking of the Pyro as female is fun. Try it.

ArtyArt:

You're right!
http://csnation.totalgamingnetwork.com/articles.php/interview_244/1/
has an interview with Robin Walker, lead developer for TF2.
CS-Nation: (From: various) What is the next class set to receive new unlocks and achievements?
Walker: The Pyro is the focus on the next pack. We're making some significant changes to the base Pyro class & weaponry, in addition to the three unlockables and thirty-five achievements. We've never been terribly happy with the Pyro, in particular with her shallower skill curve than other combat classes. We really want highly skilled Pyros to be visibly more effective than the average Pyro, and the new features are designed to address that.
but really it's just a rumor because he could have misspoken.
