Filthgrinder: For them not knowing what an ARPG is (Action Role Playing Game), I am thinking of the old hack'n'slash loot heavy games.
Thanks for clearing that one, i was sure You were referring to every god damn RPG that came out after 2000.

Khalaq: What's with all of the rep downgrading? Have we started censoring people whose opinions and/or attitudes we don't like? That's really bogus....
That's basically the whole point of the system. Which is the reason I want it gone.
Nice, I have not done a single thing wrong, and suddenly I am down to 0.

Thanks a lot guys, really nice knowing I am being hated and bullied for no reason at all except following forum rules. Really cheers up a guys day.

Hard enough being trapped in my own home due to severe illness, and forums are my only source of having a social life, but getting this kind of treatment from a community I enjoy is nothing but frustrating and hurtful.

Was under the impression this community contained adults due to the nostalgic nature of the old games I experienced as a kid, but I see I am gravely mistaken.

Well, that certainly wasn't how I was using it.

I know it may sound alien to some people, but I hang out with adult males. You know, the kind who speak their minds when they don't like something. If I have a problem with something you've written, I will respond with words, telling you in what way I think you're out of line and explaining how your presenting yourself. I do this with the intention of letting you know in clear terms what you did to offend my sensibilities. For all I know, it could all be a misunderstanding. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting your attitude or intentions. It's not like I can read your mind....

If someone didn't like what I posted, I would expect them to say, "Dude, you're coming across as being rude and unappreciative, and here is why." I would expect that I would be allowed to respond to the criticism, all parties would make it clear where they stand, and everyone would end up at least understanding one another even if they didn't necessarily agree.

Personally, I use the "rep" button to reward postings that are unusually helpful and/or outstanding in content, and I use it to punish those who abuse the community in some manner, such as people who spam advertisements in our forums. I do NOT use the "rep" button to carry out a social vendetta against an individual who may have posted an opinion I disagree with or a diatribe I found annoying. That is because, as an adult male, I allow people to be anti-social or stupid if they wish to be. That's called "toleration," and it is a necessity in any society where people are allowed to speak their mind.

As for anonymously trashing somebody's "rep" because "he/she talked mean to me," I see that behavior practiced by young girls who have serious character flaws and I abhor it.

Yeah, unfortunately this is what has become of the rep system...a system that GOG seems determined to keep for some weird reason.

Remove the boldfaced words, and add a 's' to adult and a '-sters' to young, and I agree with Khalaq.

Since Destro already confirmed that the rep system is bugged right now and that they'll be fixing it and get it to work as it worked during beta there's no point in keeping on bringing up this subject every other thread. Beating a dead horsie and all of that.

I completely agree with your outlook and usage. of the rep system. I also agree that letting people know where they're going wrong (in your eyes at least) is far a better thing to do than lazily down voting them.

The problem however is fairly evident at this stage. It is being abused and given GOG's new found popularity that's not something that's going to stop any time soon, no matter how much you promote proper 'rep etiquette'.

So, long story short, it's got to go. This always happens with these kinds of systems. So either GOG takes the high road and ditches it or this becomes another Gamespot.

But it didn't work then either though. Back then it barely budged in either direction for most people. So trolls actually gained rep as posting daily outweighed a ton of down-voted posts.

The problem now is that it can't go back to the way it was no matter how much they fix the mechanics. The community has changed.

The advice to 'hang out with adult males' and 'behaviour of young girls who have serious character flaws' did make me smile.

Agreed. It worked fine when just used for killing spam and legitimate trolling. Unfortunately, it's becoming clear that too many people are just using it to blast a post they simply disagree with. It needs to go.

I corrected the typo (should be "I hang out") and clarified the point about girls.

I also think it would be better to move the rep discussion to another posting, so I'm doing that.

KickingSquid: I don't know what their DRM stance is, and is in pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-Alpha:

but it's definitely worth keeping an eye on. Pretty much the same people who made Titan Quest.

This looks really nice so far. I'm guessing we're looking at a D2 Paladin archtype in that 2011 video, some sort of aura buff, a ranged stun (with minor damage) and some close in cleaves and other mayhem. They left off the interface (or perhaps it's not built) but I saw numbers float above a couple enemies' heads (crit damage I would guess, as this is a common setting, to display crits only).

I'd love to buy it already, but they don't seem to be offering anything but keys and it's in pre-alpha. If they could say when beta would happen and if we'll be getting beta access, I'll buy one right away. The gameplay looks outstanding. Those Youtube videos are 720p, not quite what you'll run at, probably, but probably 2/3s of your running resolution.
I definitely recommend Titan Quest. It's the best non-diablo A-RPG I've played (and I've played lots.) it's got the most polish, the best settings etc. Don't get me wrong, Torchlight is pretty good too but it doesn't quite have the flexibility; the levels are a bit too samey and there's no co-op. Nox which I've seen mentioned a few times is another good one.
