Well shit. I caught this off RPS. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/01/10/kumawar-dev-faces-execution-in-iran/
Deeply disturbing news: regardless of whether there’s any truth to these accusations, the idea that developing a game could lead to a man’s death is simply horrific. One of the developers of the infamous and oft-criticised Kuma/War series – which regularly releases game recreations of real-life, contemporary military conflicts, most recently the last stand of Gaddafi – has been sentenced to death in Iran. He’s charged with espionage, and with being paid by the CIA to create pro-US propaganda in the guise of videogames.

Amir Mizra Hekmati is an Iranian-American, holding passports in both nations, and found himself arrested when visiting family in Iran recently. The local authorities claim Hekmati has confessed to receiving CIA money to “design and distribute for free special movies and games with the aim of manipulating public opinion in the Middle East.” This, according to Iran and the purported confession, is the true aim of the free-to-play Kuma/War games. “The goal of the company in question was to convince the people of Iran and the people of the entire world that whatever the U.S. does in other countries is a good measure.”
As usual, someone was caught in the crossfire when two or more countries decide to compare the length and rigidness of their penises.

The confession is bullshit, you can see it from a mile. My guess is he refused to work with their counterintelligence agency, so he got the TV treatment. Probably still better than being killed out of caution. He's a good hostage for Iran because he's just deep enough to be valuable for the US and everybody knows Iran needs all the leverage it can get amidst this nuclear crisis.
Didn't a US ship just pick up a few Iranian fishermen of a boat with a blown engine?

Actually, that was the second such instance, two in just under a week. The first one was supposedly a botched ongoing pirate raid.

The first batch left on their own ship. The new ones are a bit stuck.

Not exactly. There have been two separate incidents, and they get mixed up.

On January 6, the USS Kidd boarded a fishing boat that had been commandeered by Somali pirates, freeing the crew.

Today, the Coast Guard cutter Monomoy responded to a distress call made by a cargo dhow with a flooded engine room.

It turns out that US vessels in the area routinely carry halal rations, in order to render aid without giving offense. Iran still says the rescues were either routine and unworthy of praise, or staged.

Anyway, between the obviously coerced "confession" and the more well-documented involvement of CIA, DARPA, and Iranian "intelligence", there will be no truth whatsoever to be had in the public accounts of the fate of poor Mr. Hekmati.

Ouch, that sucks to say the least. Chances are that he'll end up being released anyways or pardoned at whatever the next festival is in Iran, still, that doesn't necessarily mean that they'll do it and it's tough to force them to do the right thing.

Nope. Turned over to the Iranian coast guard faster than you can say "Hey, this halal meal has capsules in them! I think that... wow, I love America all of a sudden."
Iran does love to troll the world with these instances of what effectively amounts to politically motivated kidnap and torture. Usually the victims are released in due course. I hope that Mr Hekmati is too.

More or less, it's not a bad idea to stay well away from any of their famously moving borders.
Is it okay to laugh at this stupidity?

Well, if you want the members of this forum to tear you a new one for laughing about a man on trial for his life before a kangaroo court, then maybe you could start by explaining what the hell you think is laughable about it.

It looks like NATO should invade them.
Tomorrows headlines from cnn.

The US did not capture an Iranian bomber and crash it into the presidentual palace killing the leadership of Iran forcing elections and a real diplomacy.

I wish... some politicians should be shot when they take a political oath.
Iran: that shit is wacked.
