Could I get some folks takes here who have played the game???

And MOST OF ALL, can we leave Curt Schilling, the demise of his company (and fortune) OUT OF IT.

I saw the game today at Amazon for only $19.95. That's typically when games get into my price range. (Still waiting for Skyrim though, man that one is coming down sloooooowly). And I just want some info on THE GAME ITSELF.

I loved Divine Divinity, Betrayal at Krondor, Betrayal at Antara, SoulBringer, Legend of Zelda ONE and THREE (very old games), The Bard's Tale 1 and 2, Darklands, Dark Stone, Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, Gothic 1 and 2. I list these RPG's or RPG like games to give an idea of what I like.

Would I like KOATR? FWIW, I did NOT like Diablo 1 or 2 that much.

The combat is somewhat like Fable and imo pretty fun and theres lots of loot if you like that and a fairly large world and good story
However the world itself is kind of generic and there are 4 races but both 'human' races and both 'elf' races look the same basically making it two
There is a demo on Steam and on PSN and XBL if you want to try it for yourself but from what I seen if you can get for less than £20 it worth it
I played 70ish hours of it. I liked most of it, though it dragged on in some parts. It's more Fable 3 than Diablo, to be honest, though the whole experience is a lot better than that of F3. The world is very well crafted - In fact, I would love it if Salvatore were to write novels set on it.

Not sure what else I could say :P
I can't give you any information because I haven't played the game. Waiting for GOG to sell it so that I can buy it.
So far it's looking like it's a lot like Fable.

Mmmm, I own Fable The Lost Chapters (is that 2??) and Fable 3, but haven't played them yet. Perhaps I'll load one or both of them up, give them a try, and then decide on KOATR.

I'll check back in here for anymore feedback. Really appreciate it so far though, THANK YOU ALL!
I've played through it once and probably finished about 70-80% of the side quests.

It feels like an MMO but I hate MMOs so not exactly as one, more like the engine but without the people (thank god hehe). The combat can become repetitive which the entire game is about, usual action RPG so it's hard to say if it's worth it since you need first hand experience with that to know if you will enjoy it or not. The balance of the game is quite screwed, if you start in the beginning at Hard and don't explore much of the game's mechanics it will be too hard, enemies will kill you almost instantly. If you play at Easy or Normal and do actually explore the difference skills and such (and changing class during the course of the game or mix them) it will become a piece of cake.

I can't say it reminds you of any of the games you listed but I guess Gothic is the closest but with a faster paced combat.

The world itself is rather poor, very generic but I kind of liked some of it, I don't know. Even though it was ridiculously tacky in some places some specific side quests are great, even story wise.

Try the demo: Kingdom of Amalur Demo

It should be enough to see if you will like it or not.

I have it, but I haven't really moved past what I played in the demo.

.... far too many other games that I am fiddling with ATM, mostly FireFall (man can that game suck hours).
I only played the demo, but it seemed really similar to Dragon Age (except not as BROWN)

the demo was also rather buggy (ran into a psychedelic graphics/texture glitch) since it was based off an old build, although I've heard that the final product was a lot more stable

It's nothing like Dragon Age. What exactly reminded you of that game?

And yes, the final product is more stable and I think a few patches were released along with a DLC or two.
I liken the gameplay mechanics to Darksiders, only it's clearly a lot less linear and a lot more RPG. I really liked this game. I will mention the demise of the developer just to say that the game could be more polished than its current state; something I'm sure would have been rectified were the studio still around. The issues are lots of niggles, nothing really game breaking.

Judging by the list of games you provided, I have no hesitation in recommending KOA.

P.S. If you do decide to buy the game, please PM me for some cheat tables for use with Cheat Engine. The game becomes very easy after levelling for a bit and my experience was greatly enhanced by making the game more challenging with Cheat Engine. These tables were only available on the now defunct KOA forums.
Eh the map and the way objectives were marked and quests kind of felt like Dragon Age, though it didn't seem party based and the combat is different.

It kind of felt like from my little bit of experience with it the title that borrows a lot of influences from other popular titles at about the same time instead of covering new ground, kind of like Darksiders. (Not meant as an insult to anyone who like either game, there's plenty of room for those types of titles too it's kind of a shame that the middle ground's being squeezed out by production costs with everything being further polarized into either big budget category or crap)

if you have other things to play right now, I'd suggest just concentrating on them and wait for a better deal for Amalur. I picked it up for $17 including all DLC a while ago on Gamersgate, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. If you can wait, you'll probably score an even better deal with the Black Friday and Christmas sales in the near future.

That's Fable 1, 2 is an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Anyway, I'm playing it now and am enjoying it quite a bit. If you get it I recommend playing as a mage, since melee seems to be a bit more repetitive.

I think I played it for about 25 hours, then it was shelved. Not a bad game, but I found it getting really repetitive.
It's pretty much a Fable game with World of Warcraft quests.

The combat and gameplay is pretty good but even that after a while gets a bit stale and repetitive.

The world itself feels a bit static and boring. I'm not sure if it's just me but I never felt inspired or interested into reading more about Amalur's lore. Characters didn't really stand out much.

It felt like a "meh" experience, something I'd get for cheap, cheaper than $19.95, if I was really, REALLY bored of my other games.
