Has anyone played this game recently? I wanna get the hang of it but I´m finding it difficult.

Wish I knew what I was doing most of the time.

I'm pretty sure Licurg will come along shortly and inform you as he loves it.

Just go with the flow. It's the kind of a game you need to play a couple of times before you get the full hang of it. Oh and read the instruction files. Really, it's one of those game you really need to read the instructions.
I don't pretend to understand it, but it's fun anyway. I just sort of wing it and suddenly realize that hours have elapsed.
You tried reading the manual ?
Absolutely do read the manual, and follow the tutorial to the letter (or the script breaks). The game lacks detailed tooltips, but the manual explains everything nicely.

For a short version, try to keep your cow herd as big as possible (although if it grows too big it becomes difficult to care for) and aim for completing Hero Quests. Remember to explore, and especially make sure to ransack your own tula this way. Almost everything in the game influences everything else, and if something should logically have an effect on something else, it almost certainly does. Decision outcomes can almost never be decided; they can usually only be influenced. Finally, save often, especially once the feathered woman arrives (I think that's what the manual calls her).
Lord knows I have had to RTFM of many of the games I have purchased here. Many new titles are so linear and they hold your hand along the way. I even found some of them an enjoyable read. The Wizardry manuals for instance. I had to read the manual for KoDP. It's worth it.

As others have said (Read the manual. 64 pages of really handy info).

Also it pays in the long run to fully understand how to do a HeroQuest (or RuneQuest in as they were called in the rpg system the game is based on).

So make sure you read the manual on that, and understand you can use the 'Background screen' to get more detailed info on those HeroQuest Stories. And here is a link to some more info from the devs:

And this is for the iOS version, but most info will apply for the PC version:

Good luck, and may the Gods of Orlanth bless your tribe.
I started understanding it reading a let's play (yes, reading, it was done in a style where one person had the game and the people watching voted on it -- I read it afterwards) about it, and the one playing always wrote about the stuff and explained things as they went to keep people on board, it really did a lot to help me understand the game.

I'll see if I can find it for you, it was an amusing read in general.

Found it, here: http://lparchive.org/King-of-Dragon-Pass-(by-Haifisch)/

Do note it contains quite a many spoilers -- I had experimented on the game for a while so I was in little danger of that. What it also does is explain some of the more obscure statistics and give good general hints as well. The same site also has a couple others, but not having read them I cannot speak for them either.

This won't help at all, but I've read people rave about this game like it's the second coming of bacon. Especially during the summer sale.

If it were available on Mac I sure would've given it a try though.

It is available for Mac (it was made to work on Mac and PC, then recently an iOS version was released).

A competent and well balanced council is your best bet.

Having a healthy "economy" is crucial. Sufficient population growth and enough land to cultivate it + gaining the trust of the right gods should be your primary goal. Everything else is just a means to get there.

Cows are money, basically. You can get a lot of value from a strong herd, if you know how to invest them smart.

Warfare is a delicate business. Having too little of it can be disheartening for your fyrd. Too much of it any you can find yourself in a downward spiral of fewd's and revenge. Also, everyone respects a bloodless raid.

Fear the drought.

Do a lot of exploring. At least once in a few years. Explore your domain first, then go on a few expeditions into the unknown.

I encourage you to watch this guy play the game. You will learn a lot in a short time.

Thanks for the heads up ! I just assumed it wasn't available for Mac at all because there's no Mac version on GOG.
Thanks a lot guys, I´m having problems with the cows, not able to maintain a bunch of them and the quest are killing me.

So, manual and playthroughs for me then, if I want to master the game (I honestly don´t think I´ll ever will but...) I have to pay attention to most things and not go for the kill as sometimes I do.

Great community here!
