I wouldn't mind seeing an new Planescape game, especially if it used the 4th Edition rules effectively. We really need a D&D videogame that can showcase the strength of the ruleset, in my opinion.
I'd be up for anything Obsidian makes as long as it's not FPP. FPP is not my cup of tea at all.
Honestly im sick of 3D games. Isometric is the way to go. Would be awesome if they go it off the ground. Some neat ideas on the Obsidian forum :).
You might like Spiderweb Software's RPGs. Isometric and thoroughly old-school.
I suspect any game funded this way would not be of triple-A quality. I mean, Obsidian is a pretty big studio and all. Most likely it would be a kind of side project, similar to the Double Fine XBLA games. It would also probably have to be smaller in scope than a game as story-heavy as PST.

I'd personally prefer seeing another Planescape game. Not a direct sequel to Torment; the story of The Nameless One is finished, and a sequel would just dilute the greatness of the first game. Unfortunately, the Planescape setting is, as far as I know, effectively discontinued, and I find it highly unlikely WotC will relaunch the entire line just for one game.

That, unfortunately, leaves me in a bit of a pickle. I'm not fond of Forgotten Realms, but on the other hand Mask of the Betrayer was absolutely fantastic story-wise (and not even written by Avellone, as far as I can tell!) so maybe there is some potential there.

lowyhong: Glad to see someone else paying attention to Unicorn Lynx's reviews :P
He is the best. His reviews actually brought me to Mobygames in the first place, all those years ago. Not only are his reviews spot on, his preferences also very closely match my own.
Maybe Obsidian is a bit too big for a kickstarter project.
What I do hope is that publishers now understand that sometimes you have to give developers more freedom.

Because if they don't like it they might just say screw you guys I'm going home. Collect a bunch of people from the trade make a nice pitch and put it on kickstarter.

I'm really interested to see where this is leading to.
Any of the following could and probably would be great:

A new Planescape..
A new Fallout..
A new Alpha Protocol..
A game based on a new IP...
Totally new IP please.

Fallout is a way to precious IP for Bethesta to simply let Obsidian do with it what they want. Ans sequels(s) are already in the make iirc The Planescape setting has been discontinued AND you need Hasbros ok to work with it, so that is probably a nogo too.

A new Alpha Protocoll however, that is somehting I would like to see.
I do not care about setting at all (though I'll admit I am sick and tired of generic fantasy), nor do I care about the presentation. It doesn't even have to be an RPG, if you ask me.

What I would love to see is a game combining the writing of Torment with the branching storyline design of Alpha Protocol. Because that is something no other studio can make.

SimonG: I haven't played NWN 2 yet, but from what I heard it's supposed to be very good.

My favourite reviewer praised it, the expansion even more.
It's definitely not a bad game and he seems to be very passionate about it but I suspect that gets a bit in the way of a balanced review. While I don't necessarily disagree with all the good things he wrote, NWN2 has more downsides than being "too traditional" (e.g. common complaints are the camera control, the miniature inventory, the issues some users have to get it running smoothly on their rig, and I wouldn't call long loading times, slow-downs and bad party AI "minor issues"). The review is written quite well and you might like the game despite all. I'm just saying read a few other reviews by less impressed players, too. ;)

If they do decide to use Kickstarter, I would love to see a new IP. When I hear about sequels and remakes I can't help but think about the movie business and how they will continuously make sequels to movies just to make a quick buck.
Planescape is pretty much dead as a setting, don't count on it.

While it would be "complicated" to make a direct sequel to Planescape Torment, the Planescape universe(s) by itself would be a great setting for multiples RPGs, it would be a refreshing change from Forgotten Realms.

But of course the biggest issues wouldn't be to find an interesting story to tell but more to convince whoever owns the AD&D rights to sell a license to Obsidian.
