I've only backed two projects from Kickstarter and Indiegogo so far:

-Project Eternity: Regular updates about the game and some other stuff still being sent to me about it. So I really can't say much about that.

-Keep Skullgirls Growing: Wallpapers, soundtrack, and a few other stuff have been and/or are available to backers now, and voting for the extra characters are over (as far as I know). I'm still waiting on the PC beta (but I have the Xbox 360 version as well so I can have the new characters on both the console and PC version) and the first character to arrive to users (others will be a long time waiting, but I hope they turn out good). Other than that I don't really have much to say on that.

I don't feel too comfortable backing projects on these sites, mainly because of waiting for the thing to arrive to me and the risks of the projects taking longer then expected. I might consider donating to Torment and Wasteland 2, otherwise I'm kind of indifferent when it comes to these things.

Ive backed a handful of things and i dont regret it but I do wish they would put out some info a bit more frequently about progress.

I dont mean a day by day blog of what was done but just maybe once a month even a paragraph in a newsletter of a quick round up of whats still to do etc.
pretty sad and broken about shadow returns :( can anyone else confirm this ? i was thinking it was going to be a good game going back to its original roots

jamyskis: I think the point is more that the consistent message from backers has been that they regret backing it, not least because she was absurdly late in actually delivering the videos. Her reaction to any critics was to accuse them of "harassment" and "misogyny".

I personally would love to see a decent series analysing gender roles in video gaming, and I do agree with the underlying sentiment - that gaming is male-dominated when it shouldn't be - but the videos are basically rants about how shit men are and how men are responsible for all the evil that goes on in the video gaming world.

Personally, I think the critical five seconds of the ending of Metroid did a much better job of challenging the male-domination trope than these videos ever did.
She's an idiot - a sexist idiot at that, too. You're right on the money when you say she fails to create any sort of balance in her vids. I also said from the start, that she was sexist just by focusing on the female aspect since there's tons of male stereotyping going on as well in games (gay stereotyping for one).

Heck, she attacked Lego! Lego, the company who was one of the first to go with gender-role-breaking toy sets where men waited on women, had female firemen, etc. That alone shows that she has no interest in being balanced and correct. Anything she sees that vaguely may be assumed sexist, she'll jump on without seeing the much larger picture.

People who backed her shouldn't have encouraged her, to be honest. People like her actually only make the whole situation worse because she just stirs up shit and attacks people who don't deserve to be.
Honestly, it sounds to me like a lot of these Kickstarters are lacking in a good solid project manager to whip crack.
Companies like Double Fine, InXile, Obsidian, or new start ups with veterans attached already know what the drill is in regards to updates, reports, and keeping deadlines. As such, I'm far more likely to back projects with known entities than I am to back ones with people who really only have some concept art to show, and only vague ideas of deadlines, etc.

A good project manager is not your buddy, he's there to make sure people aren't circle-jerking, he's there to make sure no one's wasting time on patting themselves on the back, and he's there to make sure that everyone is getting their tasks DONE, son.

Say what you want to about corporate culture, but a GOOD manager is a valuable commodity, and is something I've come to realize after spending 5+ years in management. Yeah, you catch a lot of flak from the rank and file for being so SRS BIZNESS at work, but tbh, work is not a social gathering, and in the case of a Kickstarter, you have a responsibility to the people who have given you the money to budget with. People like to gripe about reports and updates, but things like that are in place to insure that you're NOT just netsurfing, etc. I didn't like having to fill out weeklies at my job, but I understand that my boss wants to be able to show that I spend my work time productively.

That's the bottom line. Vets already know how to spend their time productively. Newbies won't.

Elmofongo: I am sorry but you can't mix Survival Horror with RPG elements, grinding to level up takes away from the horror, imagine going to the same room over and over agian for the zombies to respawn so you can kill them and grind exp.

Stop mixing rpg elements in NON rpg games :P
Who said it was survival horror? I just read that as a survival RPG set in a zombie-apocalypse.

It's definitely not a survival horror with RPG elements, more an RPG with survival horror elements. Don't be such a snob. :P

Sorry, judging from then Trailer, it looked like a survival horror to me :P

And it would be boring if all you fight is Zombies, unless they have other monstrosities like Zombie animals, and mutants ala Resident Evil.

I will be so severely dissappointed if Carmageddon Reincarnation and The 90's Arcade Racer won't be on gog!!!!

Carmageddon: Reincarnation will be on GOG, but with a later release. And it will be missing some features (online play as I recall).
No idea about the 90s arcade racer.
Hey guys, I've got a kickstarter you should check out. It seems like it'll be worth your money!

But seriously, I've never donated to a kickstarter. Not because I never wanted to (would have forked over a lot of cash to the Skullgirls kickstarter, even though they don't need it now), but because I don't have any money.

DProject: Zombies do not provide kXP in Dead State.

Elmofongo: So how does character progression work?
You get experience for completing quests*. I.e. it works as role playing should work - rewards for progression while keeping it open how exactly your character moves forward; there's no grinding to max experience, or alternatively a 'non-grinding pacifistic' play style isn't massively disadvantaged [one of the many cases where playing outside of character may be encouraged through design and a massive flaw of many cRPGs.]

*Expressed simple - loads of info on how progression works on their forums.

It looks like it will, remember (Stainless) had a special promotion during their kickstarter. I am almost certain that it will land on these shores when it's released.

Edit: I guess it's official, there's a GOG banner right under the app store. Very cool.

To the original poster:

All disappointment comes from reality not meeting expectations. I think maybe you thought you were "buying" something on kickstarter and expected a certain level of product in return, like buying a game on Amazon and then having it shipped to you. You weren't.... When you contribute on Kickstarter you are not buying anything, you are basically investing in a speculative start-up business. Sometimes these businesses do well, many times they fail, and other times they fall in a middle ground, having only partial success after realizing the product they promised is many times harder to develop and produce than originally expected.

There is nothing wrong with Kickstarter, I think its great. But you should view your contributions there more akin to investing in the stock market, or donation to a charity. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. And doing due diligence on the group actually making the product, and not just getting caught up in the hype of their promises, will most likely make you a happier investor/donor.
OP has every right to complain. Even though it's not a market or a shop of any kind, many of the devs / creators promised sometihng and failed miserably to deliver. If i lost around 1,200 dollars on false promises, I would be upset as well.

By the way, from what I observed so far, tabletop games designers usually do better than software developers? I heard about many successful board games made via Kickstarter, Zombicide being the biggest hit so far.

There are other surviving human factions / individuals, just as desperate as you to find whatever is necessary for survival...and they will fight to keep existing.

With all due respect, I advice you to make some research about the game before asking questions you could easily find answers to yourself - perhaps you'll even find yourself interested in the game afterwards. Or, at least please stop trying to question the worthiness of the whole idea behind the game if you know nothing about it.
