While I like the show, I, too, think it`s overrated. It had potential for 1 or 2 more seasons, but it was just television entertainment, after all. However some fans talk like the cancelling of Firefly was one of the greates tragedies of the decade. And I wouldn`t really call it sci-fi either, more like "western in space".

The movie was below average, and without knowledge of what was going on in the series, unwatchable.

How is that not sci fi? I think when you have space travel, space ships, etc that pretty much equals science fiction...even if it's "Western" themed that doesn't mean it's not sci fi.

Inara was my least favorite character. I thought the concept behind the "companions" was interesting, but she was mostly just annoying and arrogant. And not really my type as far as physical attractiveness goes, either.

But yeah, Kaylee was majorly cute. Even if she and the doctor had about as much sexual chemistry as a couple of 14 year olds.

Favorite character is still either Wash or Mal. Jayne had his moments as well.

My point is, Firefly might have had space ships and space travel, but the overall theme(s) of the show did not have much to do with science-fiction, it was more action/drama with minor science-fiction and western elements in it.
The only sci-fi element in the plot was River and the experiments that had been practiced on her, but there was not much explanation provided about that, partially due to the short lifespan of the series.

Cowboy Bebop isn't really Science Fiction. It is awesome, but it is not Science fiction in what you are used to see and know.

It is a great show. I really, really liked it. But also very different to most stuff.

You need to ask somebody who has netflix ;-). The dubbing is excellent, btw, so you are not loosing out if you can't get the original. AFAIK there is just the show and the movie. And I don't see any reason why the show should be out of order. Not that there is much continuity to go with.

It takes place in the future. It has space ships and space gates (short range hyperspace?) and people living on other planets. It has a genetically engineered dog that can hack computers. What is considered "science-fiction" for you? CB is in no way less sci-fi than Firefly.

Well some actual fiction based on science in that futurictic fantasy world would be good :D

Not exactly sure what you mean by that, but Netflix has both the series and the sequel movie for Cowboy Bebop available. They're only on DVD, but the DVDs can be watched either subbed or dubbed.

Babylon 5 would be my favourite too if it were not for some big let downs in the story line.

1)The earth Minbari war - Earth ship weapons cannot harm Mimbari ships except when they have a great leader on board, Huh??

2) Remember Japanese kamikaze fighters in WW2 destroying US ships.... where were the kamikaze nuke fighters destroying Minbari ships??? Oh apparently nukes only work when planted in asteroids! DUM.

3) The shadows turn out to be not so bad in the end and agree to piss off??? oh yeah that's a reasonable story twist (extreme sarcasm alert).

Firefly story doesn't have such things that bother me... perhaps except that the 'reavers' probably do not have attributes that would logically allow forming a cohesive space force??

The most annoying story twist by far is with the new Battlestar Gallactica tho.... Because i want to watch a cat (Silons) play with a mouse (humans) and could crush them at any time but is too busy playing mind games with the humans and each other, yea i really want to watch that (extreme sarcasm alert). Give the humans some 'balls' for God's sake you morons, like in the original series!!!

I just discovered Firefly when the Science Channel started to rerun them. Loved the shows and the movie. Even my wife got sucked in by them. Would never have guessed that.

Wished I would have known about it when it was originally aired. Maybe they needed just one more viewer to keep it going. So many stories still to tell. I really want to know Shepard Book's history.

Oh well. I bought the episodes and movie on bluray. Hopefully someday they will see there is still a market for the IP and give us something.
