klaymen: In FPS or RTS games they are clearly superior (imagine playing Starcraft or UT 2k4 with gamepad....ewww), however platformers and sports are quite good with controller

DelusionsBeta: Don't forget the arcade racers. Playing TrackMania's Island maps on a keyboard may lead to more crashes than recommended.

Yes, racers, fighting games and 2d platformers are actually better with a controller most of the time.
Personally I use joy2key to map controller buttons to keyboard controls, which works great. But I only use a very simple controller for 2d platformers and the like, so I don't know how well it works for more advanced controllers.

Delixe: To this day I believe the few PC games that do support crossplatform play (Shadowrun and UAW) still require the PC user to have a Gold account to play.

chautemoc: Despite them eliminating Gold accounts?

Amazingly yes you still need a gold account for cross platform play on GFWL.

KingofGnG: The magic keys "WASD+mouse" are the best gaming controller in the world. So get used to it :-P

Platformers? The keyboard+mouse rocks with Prince of Persia (Sands of Time/Warrior Within/The Two Thrones) too....

You have to use eDuke32 to be able to set/bind your keys IIRC...been a while.
WASD + mouse = best controler option EVAR!! Besides, with WASD, you actually get to work on your left hand's finer motor ability a little bit.

Yeah, it balances out with all the right hand action... :P

Well, arrow keys and mouse for lefties, but they're all a bunch of freaks anyway. Us normal people (righties) will stick to the superior WASD controls. :p
I'm not a lefty! Well not with IT anyway. Left hand on arrows, right hand on mouse
I had a harder time going from arrow keys and keyboard to wasd+mouse, haha. Controller, mouse, keyboard, whatever works for me. UT and Quake and stuff I do need a mouse, other stuff, I don't care. Halo, Gears of War I need a controller for sure. All depends. I also have totally screwed up hands though, my pinkies just hang there because I have no knuckles, so mouse can suck sometimes because I have to push it around!
I call my key setup A-ERFG, I find that it's very comfortable and has many more easily accessable keys than a WASD setup.

Nice keyboard, but... wow, that has to be the most awkward key mapping I've ever seen. I can't imagine even considering using a setup like that.

You should see some of the key-bindings people use to play Guild Wars.

Granted it's a CORPG, not a FPS, but it has pretty active combat, most control schemes are click to move, keyboard for everything else.
