and the great thing is - I don't know anything about this game! :D only that many people say it's marvelous :)

this is so rare nowadays, to buy a game you don't know anything about, not even what genre it is, and you just install it and start for the first time... and you are amazed that it really IS amazing! :D

(I've only played it for like 15 minutes so far, so please no spoilers ;)

The game do look marvelous on screenshots and videos... I hope you tell us what you think about it after finishing it
I loved the mod version, and I would gladly buy it, if only I weren't trying not to spend money and had a better computer. I hope you enjoy it!
a strange thing occured to me while playing this:

as I was walking the roads on the island, I started to imagine what I would feel like if I was actually there, seeing the sights in the real life. and I realized that I'd feel alone... I would feel sorry about the fact I can't share the moments with someone. but when I'm playing the game I didn't feel that way... maybe because I know subconsciously that many other people play the game too, there are many others who are virtually there, with me, admiring the view.

(man, these philosophicalities the narrator says are really digging up into my brain... :D

The dog dies.
I also just bought this tonight. Played for 15 mins or so, had the game bug on me forcing a restart (basically, went in some water and the screen went black and stayed that way even after it puts you back on shore), then got stuck in the terrain, so had to noclip to fix it. But, also found a stunning vista which is now my new desktop wallpaper. So it's all good =)
PS: I've seen many, many, many screenshots from the caves in this game... but to actually be there, to walk through those stalactite caves, it was just breathtaking...........

I've bought it this morning and when I came back from work it had an update ready. so I've waited (quite long) for it to download, started to play... and I had no problems whatsoever (70 minutes of gameplay)

I still run XP though...

This looks interesting. I've got my mind wrapped around the idea to just go ahead and buy it. But I've got a lot to do right now, so I guess it'll have to wait.
just finished it... wow...

I mean, it was SO very short, only two hours or so, but still... wow...
How does it compare to the mod? Is it essentially the same, just with a fresh coat of paint?

I've felt that same lonely feeling a LOT of times, too...never felt the feeling of sharing in an experience, though :(. That and the sorrow that comes with knowing that you're playing something that is slowely but surely dying out of this world are the two dark sides of playing old games.

Slowly dying? I have never seen an interactive narrative before Dear Esther, sure not in this form - and if something there's more of them, check out Worry of Newport (I hope you're not the one who recommended it :D)

no no... I was talking about myself and my own gaming experiences. Not Dear Ester. The games I play are mostly old titles, and it's sometimes hard for me to deal with the knowledge that I'm playing something that less and less people are ever going to appreciate. Especially since I LOVE reviewing games, but really can't do reviews of most of the games I play, simply because most everyone who is going to care about the games have already played them.

Well brother, that's what we're here for. A community of sad lonely people playing our dying games together. Makes us know that we aren't as lonely as we think.

I'm sure more than a few people here would read a well written review of a classic game. I would.

Well, I woud love to provide them...in fact, I've got a huge backlog of reviews that I wrote just because I really wanted to. But I'm not necessarily convinced that many people would actually read them.

I might set up a blog for them if enough people want, though.
