"Favourite" is the correct way to spell it.
The american simplification "favorite" is however also an accepted way to spell it.
It is common within american-english writing to ditch the "u" in words like "favourite" "colour" and "harbour".

It's OK, I have taken my share of crap about things like this. For the record, I believe that British English should be used everywhere but North America, even if you are American.

Yeah, I would not call troll on this so easilly: color-colour, meter-metre, jail-gaol and more.
There some other changes (though mostly slang or pronunciation) if you go to other English speaking countries as well.

His past posting history is playing a huge factor here. Given previous posts, such an "honest" mistake seems less likely.
Now if we really want to mention a possible mistake, technically, the wording "This is my favourite forum" is incorrect as we can mark more than one forum as a favourite.
