chip168: It's good that DosBox works for your CH joystick. I've been fiddling with DosBox's keymapper for a couple of days already but I couldn't get Privateer to recognize more than button 1. :(
Have you tried changing the joystick configuration in Privateer's dosbox config file? Someone pointed that out to me after I inquired about my initially non-working hatswitch, so I imagine you might have a similar issue as all the dosbox games have a generic auto detection. Look for the line "joysticktype=auto" and change 'auto' to 'fcs'. That should hopefully do the trick.

Oh, just noticed you weren't even using GoG's version, so you should be fine just adding 'joysticktype=fcs' to the config file.

crackedegg: How are you using it? I've been treating mine as a paperweight for years, but if there's a way to get it working in a modern Windows OS, I would be up for it.

Antaniserse: Good question... actually i'm still sticking with XP for my gaming machine; I have not tried it on any newer OS
Then, I would recommend sticking with XP until the security updates run out. I can verify that my Sidewinder 3D Pro still works like a charm, but not with a computer that handle my monitor's native resolution in any 3D game.

I've considered getting an old workhorse Gravis from eBay (I'm not a fan of Saitek's centering/dead zone), and a nice USB adapter, but haven't quite had the motivation to try jumping down that rabbit hole, as of yet.

Ahaha... sorry, that was not meant to rub in your face that I still have mine, just to restate your "indestructible" comment

Yes, I've tried changing the config file for the joystick. I've tried changing various variables too like timed, autofire, and swap34. No such luck. I've been trying to get it to work for a few months already but I haven't seen anyone report his success in using the HOTAS X in Privateer.

I know:)

Reminds me of some fun times, too!
I read over this topic this morning and it just reminded me how much I miss using a joystick in flight based games. Mind you I had a pretty run-of-the-mill one when I was a kid but I loved it very much. Basically I finally decided to stop being lazy and actually try to buy a new one. :D For the time being I'm taking mistermumbles' advice and bidding on a FlightStick Pro. While the Sidewinders do look absolutely amazing, the price range on Ebay is a bit ridiculous. I'm sure they're worth it, but I can't justify spending that much on something I'm just going to play older games with. :P The Ebay auction I found ends in 5 days, so my fingers are crossed.

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. That'd make me sad, too.

Good luck on your auction. I've been having a lot of fun with mine.

I got a broken Precision Pro somewhere in the garage, great stick! I also got a Strategic Commander lying around somewhere barely used.
I've got my t16000m, I tried darkstar one with no success, I tried Freespace 2 and Battlefront 2. So far the best experience was playing battlefront.

Had no problems with DarkStar One and T16000M. Could you give some details?
