Unless there's some clause in the contract specifically adressing such an issue then yes, they would need to honor existing contracts for their duration.

it might be (or might not be) very costly tough as when you cancel a contract you most of the time have to pay damages to the second party.

it all depends on how contract were written. how strong was gog position in negotiations, how good were the lawyers... of both sides.

With the Gothic brand confirmed as back in Piranha Bytes' hands I wonder who the hell thought Jowood was worth anything.

I'm kind of sad about that as well. Because with Risen PB really stepped up their game and produced something that was, at the very least, good enough in every area. Fuck Gothic. It can't come close to competing with that.

I doubt GOG know for certain whats going to happen to the Jo Wood catalogue here, guess we will just wait and see, if Game Europe are getting money for cock all though, I dont see an issue with that continuing.
