--If you are a beta tester at JetpackHQ.com and would like to share some custom levels, feel free to post links to them here--

First of all, I would like to thank everyone in this giveaway thread who voted for the Jetpack games in the GOG.com wishlist. I would like to continue promoting these games, as I highly enjoyed the first game, and would love to see the sequel here. So I decided to start this thread.

Jetpack was a 1993 shareware DOS game inspired by Lode Runner, Jumpman, Pitfall, and other similar puzzle platform games. The full version had 100 levels, and came with a level editor, which allowed for easy creation of user made levels. The level editor was the most popular feature for the game, and hundreds (maybe thousands) of levels were shared online via BBS's. You can still find old user made levels on the Internet today, though some fan sites are now dead.

The game sold incredibly well back in its day, and was the #1 top selling game for Software Creations, the publisher that carried it. In 1998, after the said publisher went out of business, author Adam Pederson released the full registered version of Jetpack as freeware. It can still be downloaded at his website:

Anyways, the author planned on making a sequel soon after Jetpack 1's release. In fact, after you quit the freeware version of Jetpack, you are presented with a message: "Look for Jetpack 2 in 2000". However, the sequel had ultimately been vaporware until 2008, when Adam Pederson finally started working on the game. Four years after that, Jetpack 2 was successfully funded on Kickstarter, and now development is starting to near completion.

The game can be preordered at the official website here, however it would be nice to see the game on other distributors, especially this one. If you are interested in Jetpack 2 and want to see it on GOG, vote for it on the community wishlist, if you haven't already:

Also consider writing to GOG.com about this game. The developer has already expressed interest in having the game on here, but it would be a good thing to let them know that we are interested in it too.

If you want to see a trailer for the game, go here. :-)

And maybe vote for the original Jetpack, because hey, why not? :P

That is all for now. So, if you like puzzle platform games like Lode Runner, I highly recommend downloading Jetpack and trying it out. It's certainly a worthy classic that I think deserves more attention than it's getting. If you like it and want to see the sequel on GOG.com, vote on the wishlist.

You can also show your support by dropping a comment or two in this thread, and like I said, write to GOG about this game.

P.S.: Jetpack 2 is on Steam Greenlight as well. You can vote here too, if you're interested :P

Figured I'd bump this thread.
Thank you for the info I was unaware that Jetpack 2 was nearing completion! ^_^
Jetpack 2 has almost 100 votes now!

But what about poor Jetpack 1? It's cool. I think it deserves more than 49 votes. :/

I think that Jetpack would most likely be either a free release here or a goodie to go along with Jetpack 2. I doubt that they would "sell" a freeware title, even in a package.
I love the original and voted and at the risk of being a troll I'd like to share some nostalgia with the rest of the thread. It has nothing to do with the game but till the day I die one will go hand in hand with the other when I think about them. :D Okay did that make any sense? :P

Well there *is* a jetpack involved, so I'll give you a pass. :P

Well, they might catch the odd person that doesn't realize it's free elsewhere, but I don't think that would be in keeping with GOG's general philosophy.

It would depend upon the developer whether it would be a freebie or a goodie, but I suppose they could say no, although that would seem rather silly if they're selling the game here.
100 votes! Keep 'em coming.

Obviously GOG is very careful in deciding what they want to bring as a freebie, and Jetpack isn't that high up on the wishlist. So I would at least like to see 1 & 2 bundled rather than 1 not coming at all.
A couple video reviews of Jetpack here.
