Well, I'm stumped... I need help on deciding if I should buy the Jak and Daxter HD collection. I've heard that ones linear, how linear like levels linear? Two is supposed to be non linear I think, again how linear? And now for three, I really dont know about the linearity. Is the gameplay pretty much the same for all of the games? I'm usually not a fan of platforming but there is a few acceptions like Zelda. Whats your opinion of the three games? Thanks guys, this will hopefully help me decide on if I should buy them or not!
I really enjoyed the first one. It's open areas but you need to do certain things before you get to certain areas so it does have levels in a way but they're pretty seamless. The first one feels like the first Crash Bandicoot game (in a good way.)

2 and 3 are very different to the first one. They're both central hub and moodier and set in a dystopian future and incorporate gunplay and vehicles. They're highly rated and they're enjoyable and add a lot of powerups and stuff but not as great. Not played the 3rd one but the collection is on my radar, mainly for the first game though.

Might be a good idea to surf a load of gaming websites and look up the original reviews (rather than the HD collection.) and see if they get you excited.
I really, really like the series. The first game is a standard 3D platformer in the vein of Banjo Kazooie and Rayman 2 and 3. It has a small hub with portals to the different levels, and you can return to them if you miss stuff. It can be a real collect-a-thon at times, but the writing has the enjoyable snarky wit one would expect from a Naughty Dog production, and the jumping feels really tight. It's feels quite different from the next two games.

The second and third games take a more sandbox approach to the action. There is a city map and vehicles available in the second one, but many of the missions retain the linear direction of the first game. The third one has an overworld desert environment. Both of these games feature more weapons and vehicles than the first entry, but it fits the series and the writing is even better. There's good variety to the missions and there are some things you can get sidetracked with. Jak 2 has this feeling of not quite reaching the potential of the overworld, like the developers were still getting their feet wet with the concept. I think Jak 3 is the better of these 2, it feels more polished and sure of itself. I don't often hear it, but I would compare Jak 3 with Rage, they both feature a desert overworld with focus on vehicle gameplay mixed with linear shooting levels.

At any rate, I say get it. They don't quite match the brilliance of, say, Psychonauts, but they are all worth playing. I can't comment on the "HD" malarkey, my experience lies with the PS2 line.

EDIT: And while you are at it, check out the Sly Cooper collection as well. The first two alone are worth the price of admission (the third is more of a mini-game collection).

I can't think of any Zelda game that's a platformer. :P

Anyway, what I remember of the first J&D was a 3D platformer in the Banjo Kazooie perform tasks to get jiggies/stars/orbs vein.
Yeah, I was just thinking if it could be considered a platformer xD

The first Jak and Daxter for PS2 was outstanding and if you've never played it, this should be a no brainer, it's still worth the original price even today.
These game's are pretty much my perfect platformers along Spyro 1,2,3 and Crash Bandicoot 3.

When i think about it 2,3 are more of an advanture game (like BG&E). They haven't aged at all, and HD collection definitely won't be a miss.
Well, I picked it up and here are my opinions on the games:

One: Good

Two:Amazing

Three: Amazing

So, 2 & 3 are tied for first place

Oh and here are the number scores

One: 7.5

Two: 9.0

Three: 9.0

Thanks everyone for the help!
Zelda is not a platformer. Where did you get that idea? It's an action-adventure game.

Back on topic, you should absolutely get the the Jak and Daxter games. Very well made from top to bottom.
I know that I was trying didn't mean to put Zelda I meant Rachet and Clank, I was Thinking Zelda when I was typing it in.

Gah. 100%-ed Jak 1. One of the worst cameras in a 3D platformer I've ever encountered, made worse by poor inversion options. Double jump feels iffy, sometimes doesn't work when you jump off edges. Lots of other annoyances. Stiil, enjoyable in the sections where the checkpoint isn't a mile away from the 1-mistake death. Overall Sly 1 (also HD remake) felt better, maybe because of smaller levels and an actual attempt at plot.
