Well, it's nice to see progress from SOMETHING JA related.
They were supposed to make JA3, damn it! Another company wasting time.. eh,

Honestly, the 10 years of JA3 development is what the wasted time has been. At least this is something.

Wasting more time then:D
Something isn't enough, see. It's another franchise going through the MMOtions, like Ultima recently. I think this title is more of a market check, to see how many people still dig JA, than anything. I just can't wag my tail at this. It's like Dungeon Keeper [yay] MMO [oh..], i'd rather wait for Dungeons. So yay for JA3, and meh at browser based mmos.

I'll wait and see. This could be a way to actually awaken a little interest in the IP again, because after 10 years of jack shit I don't think many even know what JA is anymore. And with the amount of dev money that's already been flushed through numerous attempts to make JA3, they've painted themselves in to a corner where any full released sequel has to sell fairly big to recoup that money.
At least it (probably) won't look like a cartoon.

Well said. And given how big this stuff is now, it would be a very smart move if that's the plan. Invest small, gain a lot of interest, then release a full game and profit.

Yes, but who's attention will it draw, what public will it create. We should remember JA was never a BIG commercial success. Gaining customers by releasing a, let's call it... a "teaser" game, seems a wise choice, but on the other hand we may wake up with JA fans, that expect something not really complex. Targeting the MMO market seems a bit risky. And may result in a bit dumbed down game. I surely hope this is not the case.

They have to do something to try to drum up some attention for the IP. Hopefully this works, otherwise 3 is never going to happen.
Open beta is, well, open. I'm in the midst of it. Will post some impressions later.

Anyone else giving this a go? http://play.jaggedalliance.gamigo.com

-edit- I just tried the tutorial. I'm normally quite cynical about these successors and sequels, but I'm impressed. It has the feel carried over from Jagged Alliance, at least so far. The gunplay is also not bad, though I'm sad to say there's no prone. I also don't know whether there's fog of war or not.

Maybe I will give it a try later on today.
I know this isn't appropriate and I don't mean to derail the thread, but are there any F2P games that focus on the single-player experience? I'm not a big fan of multi-player gaming but I don't see any microtransaction models that are good for going solo.

Maybe you can try Darkwind.
It seems i have to eat my words, JAO looks and feels pretty much like a JA game. They even have the original voice actors. Dang, if it wasn't an MMO i'd be playing it like a maniac.

IKR? The interface feels streamlined but in a good way, and my only criticism is that there's no prone. Otherwise it feels good.
