nondeplumage: Back to the Future 2 sucks. But one and three are awesome.
Well, #2 is definitely the weakest of the three, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it sucks. I think it's okay, it's just not fantastic like the other two.

bazilisek: But as I consider the novel pure fascist drivel, it is hardly surprising.
People keep using that word without knowing what it means.

I'd buy that for a dollar!
Ok, I'm going to say this, then run. You can have the last word, I won't fight this corner because it will just degenerate into a brawl. This is just my own view.

Robocop 2 was the best one.

<----------- Spoilers OP - do not read ------------>

Robocop was good, and introduced things well, but the bad guy was too typical. The old man in charge was too moral, it just felt a little too far on the american dream side of things. Robocop 2 focused more on the backstabbing and nasty behaviour of the corporations. I mean, you had the coke sniffing chap who got cashed out in Robocop 1, but there's so much more decedance in OCP in number 2, shown best by how the old man is taken in by a harpy. The mayor dealing with drug dealers, OCP trying to steal the city. It's much more bitter. Furthermore the bad guy is much better because it's not so cut and dry nice and nasty, there's a drug addict, being used to further a corrupt companies goals. Everyone says the sequels were dire, and I think to an extent no-one is willing to go against the crowd. Robocop 2 deserves a second watch to consider its focus, less on Murphy, more on OCP.

Having said all that, Robocop 3 was appalling.

nondeplumage: With Detroit putting up a statue of Robocop, I feel like I'm missing out on something. Is it awesome? It is really worth watching?
Watch it, it's cultural expression stemming from that time. It is important and not horribly unenjoyable without considering all that.

I hope you've at least seen Terminator.
I checked and saw multiple listings on Amazon for around $10 for the Criterion cut.

HoneyBakedHam: If you consider yourself a lover of movies, then every film is worth watching.

MaridAudran: Clearly, you've never been forced to sit through Harmony Korine's "Trash Humpers."
I wasn't "forced", no...

But I am stronger for the experience :-)

I am NOT a Harmony Korine fan.

Delixe: I love Robocop make sure you watch it before Hollywood ruin it with the remake.
I've long said that I'd love to remake the movie as a very serious sci fi film. My film would have a fair share of action, of course, but it would be a heavier character film.

The remake that actually was in the works has been scrubbed, but since Darin Aronofsky was slated to write and direct, I wish it were still a go.

aymerict: Also it is a movie by Paul Verhoeven, and he's an intersting director, all his movies are worth watching in my opinion.
Even Showgirls and Basic Instinct... which are not really good (especially Showgirls) but still quite interesting.

Exactly! Showgirls is still interesting, it is not as bad as most people say. When I look at the rating on Imdb, it is clearly underrated. Also Basic Instinct is a classic, for whatever the reasons... :) But my favorite recently is Black Book, it was so awesome!

Putting a statue is a cool idea. Altough, maybe it will be covered in birdshit or vandalised, who knows. The original movie was so good that I don't think that it needs a remake. Third one without peter weller, well it sucked.
I'm hoping the director choice for the new Robocop means it is going to be basicaly Elite Squad (Tropa de Elite) with cyborg armor.

In other word: Pure Massive Distiled Neverending Awesomeness.

Though, the original Robocop is a great movie in it's own rights.
