HoneyBakedHam: Yea... Robocop is worth seeing.

And Wishbone is right... You can skip the sequels :-)

saramakos: I'll buy that for a dollar!
The best part is that its now so old that you probably can!

HoneyBakedHam: I was in film school, wearing a beret, and smoking clove cigarettes, and pretentiously listening to bands that I only assumed you'd never hear of) (man... I'm really glad I grew out of that art snob phase)
Wow, not only were you a twat but you were a cliche as well! VERY good thing you grew out of it...

It's one of my favorite movies. Definitely worth watching, and I also love the first sequel. Robocop 3 is something I wish I had never seen. The Prime Directives movies were okay in a twisted way that made you feel dirty and kinda embarrassed watching 'em and I'm not exactly recommending them (a lot of people say they're just horrible, but I thought they were also entertaining).

If you need any more convincing than is already present in the thread, just listen to the Robocop theme song by Basil Poledouris.
Is there like a definitive version to watch? Blu Ray or Criterion or some super duper anniversary version or something?

I think there is a directors cut. I remember seeing a version with some extra content. It wasn't anything amazing just made the film longer with the character Murphy fleshed out more.
It's a great action/sci-fi satire and the best Judge Dredd film to boot.
And in contrast to many other 80's action movies, Robocop holds its own pretty well even in todays standards.
Theyre good but i have to say the straight tho vid set of 4 after i like too, meltdown crassh and burn ect
I love it and you should definitely watch it. The sequels are terrible so don't watch them.
I found it to be completely pointless. I got no entertainment value out of it.

Regaining one's humanity whilst blowing stuff up? Better check your pulse there.
Sigh. It looks like the releases have all gotten The Predator treatment; they all seem to suck.

Why can't science fiction catch a break!?
Yes! I re-watched Robocop last year, having not seen the movie since the 80s or so, I enjoyed it. When watching it, it reminded me of Robocop the video-game! Can you believe it?
:) Also it is a movie by Paul Verhoeven, and he's an intersting director, all his movies are worth watching in my opinion.
RoboCop is the best fucking movie ever made. I am completely serious.

That said, RoboCop 2 and 3 are among the worst ever made.
Another movie from that director is Starship Troopers, a MUST see! You can see the same satire in both. Once again, the sequals aren't worth shit. The book it is very very loosely based on is even better.
Oh god tell me the acting in Robocop is better than the travesty of Starship Troopers.

Starship Troopers is the second-best fucking movie ever. I am completely serious.
