SimonG: You guys know that this is not the purpose of the forums? Why should GOG do something that is nothing but a legal liability for them? That they tolerate this in the first place is very forthcoming of them. I don't think it is allowed on the Steam forums ....
So the best way to stop scammers is to stop trading in forums. Gifting is OK, but trading games in GOG should be stop or maybe implement some strict rules before trading between users.
It would be enough if they just made register date and rep visible on PM screen. Nothing more is needed here. They don't need to encourage gifting nor trading.

I think they like the fact that people are generous and gift others. I once saw TET on a groupees book bundle chat page, and mentioned that i gave one away on the forums here. He said he visited the book bundle because he saw my giveaway.
LOL I got a PM from fake you.

GET OUT OF MY GOG YOU GORAM SCAMMERS.
gameon, it's true, but GOG.com as a company shouldn't support trading and gifting things that shouldn't be giftable (because of the TOS). TET as a private person may do that, but not GOG as a whole.

I know you don't like the fact SimonG reduces every debate to a legality level, but he has a point here.

On the other hand, simply implementing public profiles or just date of registration and Rep on private messages screen would do the trick.

This, or some sort of public display/search for profiles. Not only would it be useful for avoiding scams, but it would make easier to contact people; right now, you can't send PMs without finding a post by the person you want to contact.

On the TET point, you could be right.

As for SimonG, is there anyone who likes hearing all the legal stuff? Sometimes it's as if he's played a bit of Pheonix Wright, and thinks he knows the ins and outs of everything.

Well, yes, of course. ;-P

But I meant more in a "what should be taken into consideration when you demand stuff from GOG".

In just about every legislation a forum is the property of the company that runs it. And as an owner GOG is libel for this. Obviously the legal side is a bit complicated, but if GOG would actively encourage trading, they would be liable for scammers.

And even most of the "legit" trades here are far from legal. Taking apart Humble Bundles, trading Desura and Steam codes of the same game ....

It's his job afterall...

Furthermore, on a marketing point of vue, Gog cannot go wild and dictatorial about trading stuff on the forum, weither giftable or not, as it would highly damage its image of "Happy rabbit-rainbow" company and the usual detractors would critisize what they'd call "the beginning of the end"
