I think that depends on whether you have a static or dynamic IP....

I was a forum moderator for a while. Most people even with a dynamic system can still be banned via IP address. People with a static IP address can change theirs by resetting the modem. But anyone who doesn't know this is easily stopped. Most people are aware of what a proxy is though, and yes, IP address banning is only a stopgap measure really.

It depends on your ISP, I've had the same IP address for months but some ISPs reassign them every time you connect.

He's Portugese. A GOG user (who I will not name unless they want to be named) did quite a bit of digging. We think we know the scammers name as well and various other things about him.

Hmm, I'm not sure if my posts were some how erased from the thread. I'm not sure, or if any one's involving specifics to the scammer were taken down. If that's the case I hope it's because the info was taken and accounted for, and not because I (or anyone else for that matter) did anything wrong. I've never had a post pulled before, so I'm not sure, and I'm a touch nervous about it. >.>

You know, in some ancient cultures, having a post pulled is an omen, and it means that imminent danger will befall the concerned person, and one thousand fires will burn his purse..

Yes, but those cultures, the imminent danger referred to is usually me. ;) Oh how I love the jokes growing up about me being the spawn of the Satan. :P

Ah thanks, that's a relief. I just didn't want to end up making a colossal SNAFU. :P I wish I still had the post from captain scammer. Though I wish I still had the PM where he ripped me off, had I known GOG was in the process of banning him I would have contributed it to help. Even if no sort of compensation was open to me. I hope all others ripped off get compensated though! :) You guys deserve it, I really mean it.

I heard from Firek earlier today via a support ticket. I don't honestly expect any compensation from GOG, they are the good guys of the gaming industry in my eyes. He told me he had no $15 codes available but offered to gift me games up to that value.

I have requested XIII and Ultima Underworld, have yet to hear back from him but I know he will be back in touch. I'm sure Poland is an hour or two in front of the UK so he had probably finished for the day.

Thanks GOG, you guys have true values as decent everyday people, my door would always be open and if you do ever find yourselves in my neck of the woods (Durham location UK) the beers are on me :)

I already have Hitman 2 on GG. Works fine, no DRM, nothing to complain about. But when I get enough money, and thin my wishlist a little, I'm gonna buy it here. You know why? Because GOG, that's why :P
