So the 1C promo, guys. Anything particularly stand out? I absolutely love turn based strategy games, so this promo looks pretty well tailored to my interests. Fantasy Wars sounds right up my wheel house, UFO I know nothing about the series besides "kind of like XCOM" which is intriguing, and Star Wolves and Space Ranger sound like something I should definitely have played long ago. However I found out about Space Ranger 2 Reboot thing so I'm not sure I should bother with this version, and now I'm worried that there are better/more definitive versions of other games in the promo elsewhere.
So anyway, what would you guys recommend from this promo for a person who loves turn based strategy and RPGs?

I remember enjoying the hell out of the original Russian release of Space Rangers 1. Space flying is almost turn based there, by the way. Never beaten it, but still had a lot of fun trading, adventuring, fighting, getting my ass kicked... The second one sure is bigger, but I couldn't give less damn about the RTS part.
UFO is... uhh... kind of like XCOM. Only you don't get destructible walls, you'll be able to memorize most of the tactical maps by heart, and the combat will generally involve running in a large crowd, mowing down everything and healing up with medkits. The earliest in the trilogy has a potential to turn into a repetitive grind fest without getting challenging. I barely remember the other two.

I have only the Elven Legacy pack, but from what I read Fantasy Wars is very similar in pretty much everything. Still, take my post with a grain of salt.
-Every mission has a main quest, and eventually one or more side quests. The main quest has a turn limit. If you exceed it, you lose; if you are fast, you'll be rewarded based on how much time you had left. The turn limit is generally not unreasonable, but if you like to look out for secrets and explore every corner of the map, know that you won't be able to do that.
-The game focuses almost purely on combat, meaning there are no bases to build, spells to research, resources to harvest, or towns to manage. All you are in control of is your army.
There is gold though, wich is gained in several ways and is used to upgrade or buy units on the mission screen.
-There are many rpg elements, units level up, learn perks, and you get to keep them from mission to mission, provided they survive. Also there are treasures and places of interest scattered through the map.
-Combat is well thought, and as far as I saw, well balanced. Many options to consider, many things to learn (and the tooltips do a good job in presenting the info you need to know). The perks makes an army very customizable, and the impact of terrain on gameplay are far from the standard +1def, +1att. Most of them will noticeably change the performance of the unit, and open up new strategical possibilities.
However, that makes the game quite slow paced, even for a turn-based game. Since there are just so many things to consider, planning a move may take an really long time in some cases. Sometimes I had the impression I was playing chess...
-Some people say this is a stupidly hard game. If you ask me, well... yes and no. it actually depends on how you look at it. Getting a mission done is not hard. Yes, of course they get more challenging with time, that's normal. And there are a few missions that are not possible to complete at the first try, but I don't think it's strange either.
However... if you are trying to collect the "gold medal" in every single mission, then you'd better have a big stock of vaseline. It's brutal, frustrating and most likely take the fun out of this game. My advice: play *for fun* the first time, leave the gold medals for a second playthrough.

However, if you are supermegaconcerned, from what I've heard, it mostly just adds some extra weapons and text-adventure quests (?). That said, my OCD-buy-ultimate-version-of-every-game prevents me from getting the "incomplete" version.
Now, for my part in this thread:
Should I get a Heroes of Might and Magic (sorry if I bungled the name) game? And, more importantly, which one? Is there a storyline to speak of that I must follow?
To add to that: I played Disciples 2 (just the tutorial, but it was epic and really enjoyable) and I've heard it's similar. If I like one, will I like the other?

Four is very much a love it or hate it edition of the series, and five is similarly controversial, but I think it's a good follow-up to three (unfortunately it's unavailable on GoG, cause, you know, it's new).
As for a plot, there are some references between the games (and, oddly, many more connections to the parent Might and Magic series) but nothing major or important enough that you need to play them in a particular order. I played HoMM3 first, and had no outstanding issues. If you are really concerned about plot, the first one basically does not have a story beyond generic battle, and it's only in HoMM2 where any relevant storyline is actually introduced.
As for the connection to Disciples, I have no idea as I've yet to play it. But my friend recommended it to me because he said it was similar to HoMM, so there's that.
EDIT: I thought I should also mention Heroes Chronicles. It's basically a standalone expansion pack using the HoMM3 engine, encompassing eight new campaigns following a single character. A solid buy if you really liked HoMM3.

Pre-4 HOMM uses King's Bounty combat model. Disciples is a 6 vs. 6 staredown. Never quite as epic in scale, always more like two RPG parties fighting. Levelable/upgradeable units only support that, but you can't have everything in the party so might need to switch members for immunities, abilities and resists. Nothing could prepare me for the dragons that hit you with LIFE in the end of D2, though. By the way, D2 campaigns are quite heavily scripted and the maps imply very linear progression.

Ze Guild 2 Platinum 60% at Gamersgate. Is there anything new in the game compared to The Guild 1 Gold? Something that I would notice having played mostly as a thief/graveyard keeper?
Ok... after probing around even the mostest completest editions of Guild 2 seem rather pointless. With Gold and Platinum editions and another add-on it's still bugged and incomplete.
