Well, apologies to the OP, but we appear to have moved on to grammar! :-)
I think a construction like that would start tying my mind in knots! :-)

A common mistake that seems to be overlooked by copy editors in books is "soliders" instead of "soldiers".
I know it's a typo, but why don't people pick it up!
And the rope is TAUT, not TAUGHT!

As a child I recall analyzing some of the common phrases that were being used. For example being told LOOK OUT, I thought about it and said 'How would looking outside do anything for me in this case?'.
Then there was the whole thing where my dad got mad at me for messing with the record player when I was just doing what they were doing, it wasn't like they taught me what it was or why they were doing it, only that they were doing it...
And the memories of Atari... Ahhh... Atari...
Sorry, a little OT, but that can't hurt, can it?

F4LL0UT: That's nothing! Blizzard somehow managed to mix up Arthur and its German version Artus and accidentally named a character Arthas! How moronic is that?! And those idiots actually released the game before noticing it and now pretend that it was intentional!F4LL0UT: Yeah. Obviously this is how you spell it.
Pretty sure they spelled all of the demon and elves names wrong...oh that's right it is a fantasy setting so they have creative license to names. Trilogy is not a tri-ology as so many people say if not write.

Grocers' apostrophe kills me.
People who should Speak English natively who Decide to Capitalize random words in a Sentence. It's not German, no matter how close we hew to the source material.
Any use of abbreviations typical of chat or text messaging, when used other than in a dialog. Just recently that email exchange from the FCC, regarding the bit on the John Oliver show, showed that it's really pretty much everywhere.
I was raised by English professors, though. To say that I'm unfairly picky about things is not only a defensible argument; it's a gentle way of stating the obvious.
[url= but ffs, how hard can it be to write like you haven't spent the last 90% of your life eating lead paint off a radioactive wall? It's not speech. It's not even chat. It's not real-time - and you have the benefit of real-time spelling and grammar checking in practically every word processor available. Bleh. ][/url]
