It'll be interesting to see what happens with it, but never having bought the first one, I'm mildly apathetic.

Endzville: I guess Roman thinks that marketing it towards a broader audience in EA (or a few AAA companies, in fact) lingo means making the game more generic in some ways. Whatever he means, it's far too early to suggest anything like that; we've not seen a single piece of gameplay yet, for god's sake. If anything, moving the free running to an open world scenario could turn out to be really good news, depending on how they do it.

langurmonkey: He could be right but he could be wrong. Making a game more appealing to a broader audience could mean more sex and violence in the game.
you mean less sex and violence so they could get a better pg rating?
If they dumben ME down, it's just sad. I wouldn't even be angry, just sad.

Roman5: The deathsentence of a game
So, not based on any facts then

Maybe this but we won't know until EA releases more information.
It's EA. You should be glad they're not doing anything you might like.

Well... That's kinda right, isn't it ?
how can it be a franchise? there was only one game!
eh whatever, I didn't like the first game but I liked the idea. I wouldn't mind them making a different game from the first one because it was really bland and boring.

or it means including more sex and violence. Most people love sex and violence. Look at the top 10 most popular TV shows. Most of them, have a lot of sex and violence.

So by making the game something other then a linear first person platformer that was super frustrating they are ruining the game? Come on man, I'm really getting tired of this mindless 'game x or y is going to be shit because of appealing to a wider audience,' when half the time appealing to a bigger audience means getting rid of frustrating bits in the game.

What is "frustrating" to casual gamers is challenging to core gamers. There was a time when games were actually about being challenging, instead of petty ego-stroking power fantasies for teenagers.

I don't find anything fun about random death traps fun (which the original Mirror's Edge had plenty of due to the perspective), and don't know anyone else who does. I can imagine those are the kinds of things they are looking to cut down on.

Pretty much this.
