I am stopping with this console generation, unless the WiiU is as nice a netflix box as the Wii, in which case I might get a WiiU once it gets below $100.

My intention was not to spread "Nintendo hate." Some of my favorite games of all time were Nintendo games. I was simply stating that Nintendo's view on piracy was around long before the N64 generation.

Also, Nintendo is changing its views on 3rd party software. Just take a look at the launch titles for the WiiU.

Well one of the things I am excited for WiiU is now they include gamecube games in the virtual console which there are GC games I have never played like Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem and games I want to play again like Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 Rogue Leader (if they ever get released on Virtual Console)

Blah. Eternal Darkness has a good reputation because:

1) Nintendo fans were starved for anything that wasn't mario party or platfforming.
2) It's rare.
3) It was a more adult story/setting

Eternal Darkness in terms of gameplay and storytelling is wretched, which makes sense, given the developers terrible pedigree. The "fake outs" were the entirety of the game, and stripped of that gimmick, you end up with another Resident Evil clone ala D2.

I'm not convinced that Nintendo's views on 3rd parties had that much to do with the Wii's meager selection, frankly. I always thought that the 3rd party devs were releasing mostly shovelware on the Wii due to Nintendo's choice to do something unique (motion controls) versus raw power. At least until -after- Sony and Microsoft made the Move and Kinect.

That being said, however, the devs appear to be truly engaged in the WiiU Gamepad.

I suppose you are right. I just find it difficult to see shovelware as real games, not to mention that I have not heard of 3/4 of the devs putting those titles out. Most of them were just small companies jumping on the gimmick bandwagon looking to make a quick buck. That happened with the move and kinect as well, just not on as great a scale. It wasn't until recently that bigger devs have tried using motion controls and voice commands within core games. Most of the motion control options are still pretty gimmicky. The problem with motion controls (and many voice commands) is that either they do not work well enough to be effective, or the uses for them do not add anything to the gameplay. At least with the WiiU gamepad, there is the potential for improved gameplay options, like your inventory or map on the gamepad allowing to access items or fast travel without going into menus that remove you from the game.
