Next hint please :)
Maybe an indication of how many letters/numbers/symbols are in the key or maybe tell us a specific character.

I can't give you a hint about the key, it wouldn't help anyway.
Ok, I guess this ranks as a GOG competition failure. We'll have one last go before we file the compeition in the depths of GOG general discussion.
The wordplay, and in particular the 2 words that would give away what you need to do. Are in this post.
just stick them in Bing. First link.

"The list of games below should help, if you rank them in order of release, then the key contained in the second file should allow you to access the prize."
File 2's key is found by ordering the games from oldest to newest, which gives this number: 892753164
Using that number, you get an image of the game Battle Chess, which has text written on it explaining that you're looking in the wrong location. Which is correct, because the Battle Chess image has nothing to do with the puzzle.
File 1's key is found by reinterpreting the line mentioned at the top of my post. Look at this wikipedia page here. So if you interpret "second file" to mean "second column" you can use the reordered list of LucasArts games to find the next key. So for example, the letter used from #1 would be "r":
1. Grim Fandango
I'm sorry I can't tell you the exact password, because I closed the text file I was working in. But if you follow the steps, you should see an image of...Conan(s)...

Incidentally, If you had asked file2 "Where should I be looking?" you would have got another clue, but from the comments received, I should have worked harder on that clue. I thought it was quite a neat brainteaser personally.

Lame, I should have just ignored all the damn clues and kept going down the line. I entered all of the FIRST letters of each game into file1's PW.
All the later clues just confused the issue.
