Two true tales for you.
I scared my older sister so badly as a child with the story of
The BFG by Roald Dahl, that to this day, she refuses to go to bed with the curtains open.
I was an extremely precocious reader as a small child. From a late start at the age of six, by the age of 7, I was reading adult books. The only reason I didn't read more adult books was because I thought you could only be in the adult section of the library if you were an adult. O_o Good thing my dad was also a prolific reader, and he bought everything!
Anyway, a lot of the adult books I read were horror books like
The Rats by James Herbert or
The Manitou by Graham Masterton.
So, I was filled with lots of ghoulish details about how people could die in gruesome and terrible ways.
When I told the story of the big giant that comes at night and looks in all the windows with the curtains open so that it could find the bedrooms with children in them, it wasn't so that he could blow good dreams into their ears.
Let's leave it at that, shall we? :)
I have seen a UFO. When I was young, I woke up early one morning, and went to open the curtains. It was very early, and the sun was just up. Everyone was still asleep.
When I opened the curtains, there was a UFO outside the window. It was big and grey and oblate. There were marks on the skin of the craft that looked like portholes. It also possibly emitted a hum, or at least a low frequency hum. You couldn't actually hear it, you could feel it.
Anyway, I tried to wake my sister up as she was the closest person to my room, but she wouldn't wake up. So I ran to the other side of the house, and shook my brother awake, and then just told him to come to my room. Being a trusting soul back then, he sleepily complied and also saw the UFO. Before we could wake our parents up though, it flew away.
At the time, it seemed to simultaneously be huge and small. It was big enough that it covered the area of the square of our cul-de-sac, but we could also see all of it in the bedroom window.
My brother and I have slightly differering details, we agree on the size and the possible portholes, but he says it was rotating, and I say we couldn't have seen the portholes if it was rotating. Because it did both?
Anyway, true story.
The tall part of the story is that even having seen the evidence with my own eyes does not convince me that aliens would want to visit this toilet of a planet.
Unless, of course, it's an alien equivalent of cow tipping?
