have a thousand commercials with the word DOWNLOAD all over the page, and the download link for the file you actually want to download is in a tiny font at the very bottom of the page. you have to pixel hunt the page just to find the download link you actually asked for as opposed to downloading some rubbish tool bar you would never need that steals your credit card details and funnels them to vegetarian terrorists in iceland.

does anyone else get frustrated at this? all i want to do is download the patch for thief 2, and i have to spend 1000 hours searching for the gorram link. ok ok ive vented, im ok now.
It's an ad supported service and they obviously get paid for accidental click throughs. What really gets on my nerves is when people say that something is lightyears ahead of its time. Idiots.

Or like with torrents(even legal ones)....sometimes the .torrent link is buried below two GIANT ASS BUTTONS labelled play/download (which lead to spyware downloads usually), and even then it's next to misleading links which say DOWNLOAD FASTERER 5X SPEED! which are just links to their proprietary paid download clients.
I found this and it reminded me of this thread.

UUUUGGGGGHHHH YES!!!!

SO FREAKIN' STUPID!!!!

MAKES ME SOOOOOOOOO MAD!!!!!!!!!

*ahem*

err...sorry. But yes... this issue vexes me.
How about these two goodies.
1. The link that you actually need is dead.
2. The link is no where to be found at all.
I know how you feel. There is a reason that when I need to download something on those sites, I do so on my old laptop with linux. This saved my rear on a couple of occasions, plus it is faster to reinstall linux if worse comes to worse.

Is this what you're looking for?
If you're using Firefox, try the Adblock Plus and NoScript extensions. There are similar extensions for Chrome. I don't know about anything for IE.

yes, i found that patch on that site, but thank you for the link regardless.
Heh, on GOG's gamecards you press the "Download" to buy a game and then the "Redownload" button to download it for the first time.

This is why I always hover over a link and look at the bottom bar for the true link URL before clicking something. If I find ads on a page I then use Adblock to block them so I don't get caught by them in the future.

This. Get adblock and when you spot an obvious bad element/link on a page use adblock to selectively block it on all future pages of that site.
