Im so not impressed with this. I mean "im going to redefine rpg's" How? Im glad you asked! "We are going to do everything better!".

It will only have everything (wordly).

Mostly it just look like a play on words. Copy all the "hype/buzz" words that other kickstarters have used. Then copy a list of features from every game out there.

I just cant take this kickstarter serious. It gets even worse when you know he have a shit ton of money.

spindown: I'd be ashamed to hit people up for cash after spending $30,000,000 on a personal trip to outer space...
Not to mention the 32 million he won from NCsoft after that.

Edit: Also, someone mentioned, how are they going to prevent cheating online if they allow you to switch to offline. Good question...

I think people are forgetting that by and large, Ultima Online is the most recognizable part of the Ultima series when it comes to gamers that weren't raised on cRPGs and such.

That aside, it sounds great and if I didn't have issues paying for something I won't be able to play for at least 9 more months (and I had the money, which I don't. Never do when KS's I'm looking at roll around), I'd probably have pledged by now.

They're over $400,000. Not bad.

Not trying to be negative, but this seems like real bad timing with Dreamfall Chapters, Mage's Initiation and Torment still fresh.
This might force some people to chose who to back, withdraw support for those big projects and might bring new comers to overlook them.
Not to mention make stretch goals more difficult to accomplish.
Woulda been better if all the attention was on this a couple weeks after those kickstarters closed.
I also am not a fan of the MMO implications.
I loved some of the games on his resume back in the day, but honestly I'd need more convincing.
Video and screen shots just make me shrug.
Reminds me of how I felt off about SHAKER.
I would love a new deep Ultima experience, but we already have plenty MMO/hybrids following in the footsteps of Ultima online and the like.
Absolutely disgusting, I hope every one who pledges to this crappy disguised-MMO feels ashamed. Giving money to a guy who paid 30,000,000 to go into space, and also got 32,000,000 from suing a company, and who lives in a mansion, is ridiculous in the extreme.

This is the kind of project that is a stain of Kickstarter, it's a completely commercial-minded project, absolutely 100% mainstream and no different than any other MMO currently in the market that would have no trouble getting funding from a publisher.

The kind of morons and casuals who would donate to a project like this blows the mind. Seriously, get back to World of Warcraft.

Wow, if that is all true I am very against this project.
The developers of Project Eternity, Torment, Wasteland 2 and Shadorun Returns are all genuine people who just want to make a good game and have their own IP.
This guy sounds like a leech.
If he is that loaded and he still wants a million from the community then his heart isn't in the game.
Even crappy MMOs make good money over a long period of time.
Even the free to play market makes bank from all of the online transactions.
If he really is that greedy then it makes sense that he would want to use the Ultima name to suck in the fan base and bleed them dry so he can waste more money on his own selfish whims.
I hope I'm wrong though.

Isn't it funny how LB announces a veiled maybe-always-online-even-for-single-player game at the same time when EA shows everyone why it's a stupid idea, yet people still flock to his call.
Ultima seven.. Is my computer too fast or do those people originally move so fast in there?
Also it took a while to rake things.. Accidentally I started killing people and i just wanted to bake bread. ^^

Uninformed people who came to Kickstarter based on the return of the old-school with projects like Wasteland 2 and PE. I'm not saying that this isn't a good thing, but apparently a lot of people seem intent of fooling themselves into believing this will be a legitimate Ultima-like game. Just check out the comments on the Torment kickstarter page, there's a lot of pretty derpy people, like Bioware rejects for whom Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 were too shit even for them, and now mistakenly think they're "hardcore" even though they have probably never even played an RPG made before the year 2000.
The pitch video for this was just laughably bad.

"Hi, I'm Richard Garriott. Twenty years ago, I created all the best videogames ever and personally invented soap. Now I give you freshly-scrubbed masses the opportunity to throw your copper coinage at me, Richard Garriott, so that I may make an RPG game on computers. This "video game" will have such advanced features as "a plot" and "graphics", designed by me, Richard Garriott. You will play a "character" who will have two legs, and will use them to walk around terrain and possibly run towards or away from things. I'm Richard Garriott!"
Why all the hate? Personally, All of the claims he made are correct. I didn't know about the lawsuit, but honestly who cares. I'm sure the creators behind Project Reality do not wonder where their next meal is coming from. It almost sounds like sour grapes.

Nah, I'm not actually hating on the guy, I have no idea what he's like in person. I just think the pitch video was a mess and he came off poorly in it. As for the $30M space trip... fuck, if I had a spare $30M lying around, I'd consider it. Power to him.

Heh, I forgot about that one. Though now you've got me wondering if I was subconsciously riffing off it.

Because he's trying to deceive people into paying for his shitty MMO by implying it will be like an old-school Ultima game, in addition he's trying to monetize players with DLC "episodes" and microtransactions. If he cared about this game he would of financed it out of his own pocket, he obviously only cares about the money.

Also, the only reason it jumped up in pledges at first is because the guy obviously forked out money to websites for coverage of the Kickstarter, including that sycophantic "stream" he had sitting on a couch with two morons telling him how great he was and asking fake staged questions. The guy has been doing nothing but marketing pitches the last 24 hours.

Ha, he even has an advertisement masked as news on the BBC front page!
