Someone here mentions it was open source and it reminded me of Daggerfall so is it?

Open Source doesn't necessarily mean free, check Jagged Alliance 2 and Arx Fatalis for examples.

If there is an engine port, I'm not really sure.
As I recall, there was a webpage where you could play the game for free legally, let me dig it up.

Edit: Adzeth linked the page already, damn you silent ninja...

Open source is not the same as free.

Open source tends to mean a release of the engine, but all assets are still under copyright. I think this is the case with most of iD's games?

Edit - ninjad by the ruggedly handsome commando.

That never gets old! :D

The original Wolf 3D came with a my copy of "Return To..." and to be honest I was bored out of my mind 5 minutes after I started playing. It has not aged well.

If it's available on 3D Realms' own website, you can download it. Due to my German IP I can't check what kind of download they offer for Wolfenstein 3D though. :/

Wolfenstein 3D is available from both the original developer (id Software) and the original publisher (Apogee, now 3D Realms). The download on the 3D Realms site is a lot cheaper, though. Spear of Destiny is only sold by id Software.

It's still fun in my opinion.

Don't be, buying it on Steam may actually be a better option for most people, I was just explaining what I meant. :)
