I am struggling trying to figure out how to play the wizard and cast spells, and such. Not an easy game.

right-click to get a radial tree menu from there you chose a branch ("cast spells" or something), then sub branch "magic missile"... after a little while you can do it without looking as you just drag the mouse in the direction of what you want to do.
EDIT: So long as you don't begin playing with another class, as you'll have to learn the new directions then.

also, B (default) to memorize spells. And read the manual, it's really thick & helpful (esp. if you don't got any d&d experience)

I know we've probably moved on by now, but my view is this:
NWN Campaign: probably the worst game I ever completed - 20 hours of sheer dross. Diablo with terrible combat.
NWN Mods: probably among the best computer game experiences I have had
Seriously, play Almraiven. Or Tales of Arterra. Or Hex Coda. Or The Aielund Saga. Or my favourite, A Tangled Web. Utterly, utterly fantastic. NWN is a complete experience, and while I hated - HATED - the OC (and hated myself for finishing it), the toolset etc. combined with the community has created some genuine masterpieces of CRPG.

Easier to go with a fighter then, not a sorcerer or wizard. The manual should help quite a bit if you're up for some reading.

The WORST? I don't think you've played enough RPGs, then, friend. I've played games that were far more boring than NWN; the worst accusation I could level at NWN is that it is very average.

I'm seriously struggling with the diablo comparison, can someone enlighten me?
I liked the game. I've only played the main single player campaign. I found it endlessly better than the NWN2 OC.
Quests like Castle Jahreg made it worthwhile, I found the combat fine (and I don't play RPGs for the combat), and I also enjoyed the main quest.
I read these comments and wonder if people were playing a completely different game to me!
I'd start naming the RPGs I'd label "the worst" but that might derail the thread completely.

I have a friend who "really likes" Baldur's Gate 2 - thing is though, he's playing it as if it were Diablo 2. If I weren't there to slow him down a bit and insist on doing a side quest every now and then he'd just rush through ignoring all joinable NPC's, with the possible exception of Viconia (and that's just a maybe), choosing the dialogue choices that lets him continue with the killing the quickest and counts it as a bonus if it gets as many as possible angry with him so he can kill them without reputation loss. In the current ongoing game, he's true neutral, a shapeshifting druid.
There are many types of people. I like the game BECAUSE of the NPC banter (among other things), he despises that same aspect and just finds it irritating.

I liked NWN. I mostly play single-player, with fan created modules. There are a ton of great ones out there, and I still have a bunch queued up I'd like to play.

3rd person + fantasy + fighting + not turn based = diablo
Basically I think people get out what they put in, you can play it like diablo if you want and you can also play it like an RPG if you want, both work but I know which I prefer.
Personally I enjoyed the OC for both 1 (which I thought was good if somewhat bland) and 2 (I really liked the OC for 2) but found the expansions substantially better. The expansions for both added a lot more depth and character which I suppose is fairly easy to do when they're just making a vast module with minimal new programming. I'm also swayed by the fact that I had a bit of a thing for Nathyrra and liked the appearance in Cania of some of the characters from the NWN1 OC. For Mask of the Betrayer I loved it for the theme and because I was also kinda vaguely hopelessly in love with Kaelyn The Dove

It is a little hard for me to get the comparison as I have never played diablo or even seen it played.
So, I am not sure if NWN is like it or if certain areas are like it. I just know that NWN is not a very intuitive game to play after a day of playing, but I can cut it some slack as it is fairly old.

Hell yes! All great recommendations. Tales of Arterra was my own all-time favorite NWN mod. I never got past the first part of A Tangled Web as the character being forced to do what I considered very stupid actions resulting in Bad Things happening put me off, but I might need to revisit it now that you've mentioned it alongside other mods I absolutely loved. I'd also heartily recommend Elegia Eternum and Excrucio Eternum, both by Stefan Gagne (the same guy who made Hex Coda).

Don't forget "The Bastard of Kosigan." That series is excellent, although I don't believe they've finished translating every module from french, yet...

Are they single-player or multiplayer mods?
