A TAD more epic? Did you forget who the last fight in the game is against?
Seriously I've never been so bitchslapped in a game, not even in dragon age at the anvil of the void (so close to changing the difficulty there). I went from near constant criticals (I actually had a 75% chance to score a crit) with both my weapons doling out more than 200 damage per round all the way back to single digit damage
No idea where people get the idea that its a diablo clone, I can sort of see it with the main campaign but hordes really worked as a D&D game

I took a sorceress character through all three: the original NWN and the two expansions, and it's not as hard as you might think as long as you have a big, sturdy henchman to go absorb damage for you. I also ended up taking a combat oriented familiar for added firepower, -and- you can summon other creatures in fights, too, so that's enough to pretty much make a full party in what's really supposed to be a "you and one other guy" kind of game.
I did pretty ok for myself.

I like Linu because I mainly play as a Monk or Sorcerer. And she's charming. However the one Henchman I grab every time in Hotu is Deekin. I recently replayed as a Wrathful Beserker (Epic Build from the Bioware site) as picked Deeken in my sidekick again. I've never seen him die. Ever. He has so many buffs than he can take just about anything.

Diamond Edition is a better choice. You get NWN, SoU, HotU, and the first three Premium Modules - and you'll be set to DL and play tons of community made modules as well.
As for a mage, they're easy to solo.
If you're going Fighter, then grab a couple Rogue levels and pump your Use Magic Device skill.
Considering all you can have access to, the game's well worth more than 10 bucks (talking Diamond Edition here).

It's a decent RPG, and I enjoyed the story. I'd more than happily play NWN1 OC again (completed it a few times), unlike NWN2 OC (completed it once).
Sure, it doesn't have much in the way of choice/consequence... and is formulaic in certain respects, but I find it more than enjoyable enough.
I wish I hadn't got rid of my copy, and if it was on GOG I'd snap it up in a second.

I've had the Diamond edition for a while now and I've never really played all of the main campaign and expansions. The Diamond edition comes with the Kingmaker premium modules (Kingmaker itself, plus two others). How are the premium modules? Considering that I quit on the game due to boredom, are they even worth trying out?

The depends on what you think of as Boring.
Lemme see.... Kingmaker, I recall, was pretty exiting for me. You get dropped down in the middle of a small fiefdom and are tasked with taking the place over, by force, guile, or diplomacy. There's a fairly large cast of developed characters to play with, and there's a variety of different ways that the module could play out based on what sidequests you choose to pursue. The "Kingmaking" process consists almost entirely of doing sidequests, BTW.
Witches' Wake tells a dark, epic story. It's a very interesting tale, and the gameplay fits in with the story so well... but the story ends on a cliffhanger, and I don't think the Witches' Wake series was ever completed. Kind of disappointing, overall...
I've never played ShadowGuard, so I can't speak for it.
EDIT: Scratch that, I remember now! ShadowGuard is a fun module for anyone who likes to play spellcasters. There's a variety of unique little wizardry toys to play with... unfortunately, the module is more like a prologue than an actual story. I suppose that's part of why it didn't make much of an impact on my memory.

As someone who is still actively modding NWN I can say that it's a very good game that is only going to get better as it ages. Sure, the graphics might be outdated but the shear level of free content more than makes up for that.

Buy Diamond. Best value ever - and that was when it was $20. The only game I spent more time playing was Morrowind.
NWN is good if slightly generic, ditto the first expansion. HoTU is great. Many of the mods are good too.

OK, I may buy Diamond myself, but can you guys tell me what DRM it uses and if it has been patched out of the game at thsi point?

The most recent pressing of the Diamond edition is already DRM free (already updated to 1.67). If you end up getting one of the older pressings that still had DRM, it was just a simple disk check, SecuROM v4.X, I believe. It installed no hidden drivers or services, everything was built into the game's executable.

I'm also playing it now for the first time and I don't really get it. I mean i get trough the normal enemies very easy but then I get to a waterdavian creature and get owned each time. I'm probably doing something wrong, but is it normal that the game almost feels too easy and way too hard against a boss?...
(don't have the expansion unfortunately, couldn't find them where i live :( )
