Is there a game that has a ton of possitive hype on it, but haven't tried it? Have you wondered "Is it REALLY as good as the reviews say???"

Ever since it came out when I was young, I was wanting to play "Theme Hospital". To this date, I still haven't had the chance to play it but am considering getting it because of the current sale. It looks and sounds fun, but I haven't tried it yet. What do you think about it?

Alright, Spec Ops: The Line. I've heard there's a good story, but is the gameplay actually any good?

The problem with games and any piece of entertainment is that opinions are so subjective I rarely ever find myself buying a game due to what some stranger told me. Reviews tend to be skewed; maybe a bit less a decade ago or so, but still. One thing other people's opinions is good for though is to see whether a certain game has some notable flaws or an utterly broken mechanic that may worsen one's experience.

Other than that I tend to go by my gut reaction, which more often than not is still the best indicator for me. If I know enough about a game, and it appeals to me based on that information that's when I consider actually buying it. Buying a game due to my own hype is much rarer these days.

I tend to ask myself that question for just about any game, especially the ones that get all the hype.

I'm trying to move past "buy it just to have it and play it at some future date". So these days I do a lot of research before buying, and though opinions are subjective, it's still a good way to get an overall impression as far as mechanics, playability, length, story, etc.

It's very diligent, and successful, in recreating a modern "realistic shooter" for its entire duration (6-8 hours): health regen, 2 carriable guns, cover system, explosive barrels, "firing guns out of a vehicle" scene etc. It's, probably, one of the main points, that it sets up the heroic shooter/action movie stereotypes to twist them into a complete mindfuck.

Realms of Arkania...the survey ended over 6 weeks ago and its still one of the hot topics on this forum...is it because people are bummed they missed out on free games or is the game really that good?

I played my share of rpgs and I had heard of this game back in the day but there were so many rpg's that were out back then when I had time to play them, that this one never made the cut for me. So, is it worth it really? And if so, why?

People on Steam forums keep going about how great and addictive Faerie Solitaire (which is currently on sale as "free") is. I wasn't too impressed by it myself.

I'm quite curious about Mass Effect 2 and 3. I've only played ME1 (and loved it), then bought ME2 on release but never got to play it, mostly because the DLC madness pissed me off, oh yeah, AND because I wanted to have a level 60 character in ME1 first.

Also curious about some RPG classics such as the best Ultima and Might & Magic games (currently making my first run through the Ultima series, only need to kill Minax in U2).

A weird case is The Witcher 2. Bought it on release but I never beat the first one so I just took a little peek into TW2 so far. Can't wait to give it a serious try but I just can't get myself to beat the first one, always getting bored in chapter 2 or 3.

The gameplay is the current industry standard for third-person shooting games. This may sound somewhat negative, but there is a point to that.

You're not gonna believe this one:

Civ V (or IV for that matter).

I've actually never played a regular Civ game. I played Colonization for a little while back in the 90s and Alpha Centauri for about 20 minutes, so all that doesn't really count.

In my unhumble opinion, ME2 is a very good game. The plot I believe is better than in ME1, and some gameplay elements make the experience more smooth, but I disliked dumbed down RPG mechanics (equipment, inventory management). Plus it has two epic DLCs: Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival, that are a must for full experience.

ME3... Hmm. I don't carry negative feelings about it like others, because I played it once the controversy was long over, but I believe it just lacks an epic feeling of the first two parts, which is even more strange as it is supposed to be the epic conclusion to the saga. RPG mechanics are basically nonexistent ant it's more or less a shooter. There are no "a must" DLCs released as of now (with the exception of the Expanded Cut, which is vital). The strangest part, though, is this:
I carried my Shepard from the first game to the last, and while I had no problems importing ME1 save into ME2, trying to import ME2 save into ME3 only carried the information of my accomplishments, but not the looks of Shepard. I had to rebuild her from scratch. Strange...

I'll be honest I thought the OP meant Halo 4, because I am surprised how much praise its getting and I mean Game of the Year kind.

Well I will be the judge of that when I rent it, because they never said this much praise for halo 3 because of Call of Duty 4, or Reach because of Red Dead Redemption.

If the campaign is as awesome as they say than wow i'll be impressed.
