It is possible to have too many games. I had to clear my room out when my youngest son was born just to have somewhere to put the crib. I am currently out of room again for games. although it doesn't take anything to store game accounts.
The answer is yes. Yes, it is.
Is it possable they will ever stop making them?
I don't see the question here. To me it just sounds like "is it possible to have too many fucks?" in a given lifespan. Just enjoy every single bit of it and don't ask silly questions! :-P
It's certainly possible to have more than you can possibly finish in one lifetime. I think I'm near that point, both in video games and books. Whether this is necessarily "too many" is in the eye of the beholder.
If you have to many in a room, try not to save all the boxes and DVD cases. Put multiple games in boxes and DVD cases you want to keep. Doing that can litterly reduce the size the collection would take up by 50%.
As for having too much. I would say no. That is like telling an museum or a library that they have too much. You may not get to all of them at once and you may not play some of them for awhile but in the future you may want to play with them again and your kids or relatives might want to play with them. Heck I have gone back and played old games that I have owned before. Just don't buy too much at once. If it is not a sale and or it is not going to go down or if the sale price is not that different then wait until you get through your other games. Multiplayer games may differ depending on how long the players will play it and the problems that it may have and if those problems ever get fixed. Just manage you budget properly and you are okay.
I had too much at one point until Digital Distribution came out, now I can never have enough because they take no more physical space. Now the question for me is can I have too many books? Right now the answer is yes I can.
Too many to what ends? You can have more than you can beat. You can have more than you can afford. You can have more than you have space for. But I seem to never be able to have more than I want.
Peek my collection: http://www.backloggery.com/jt
I own most of them, though I also track beaten games. If they have the ghost icon or the trade hands icon, I don't own them.

Wow, somebody has over $7000 invested in a Steam account?
Talk about asking to get screwed by a future acquisition...

Nah, he probably works at Valve (or did at one point), that seems to be every game available on Steam. Doubt he bought it, probably perks of the job.

I don't know. If people can possibly collect Beanie Babies, there must be someone who has purchased every game on Steam.

Well, he IS part of the Valve group that only employees can join. Everyone there owns those insane number of games.
But probably SOMEONE out there did buy a ton of games like that.
Rise thread, live again!
My thoughts on this is yes, you can have too many games, just like you can have an excess of anything. Only in the last several months did I snap back out of my phase of excessive gaming and not jump at every sale I saw or stay up late all the time playing games (still a habit I have to fight).
Yeah, too much of anything can be a bad thing. That said, moderation applied, a continued habit of collecting them isn't a bad thing as long as other elements of life aren't ignored (charity, health, saving, etc).
I probably buy too many games as I collect them and I like supporting the industry, but I don't think I play games too often. Usually I only play an hour or two a day and less on the weekend when my girl and I do something.
Sadly this is the reason my backlog is massive.

Yeah, I don't think I suffer from excessive gaming either, but I do suffer from excessive game buying.
